The majority of the co-hosts of ABC’s daytime talk show “The View” have no love for President Donald Trump or anyone associated with him.
And on Friday’s show, they slammed first lady Melania Trump for her latest statement expressing outrage over the anonymous op-ed published recently in The New York Times and written by an apparent “senior Trump administration official” — who said he or she is continuing to work within the administration but trying to thwart aspects of the Trump agenda as part of the “resistance.”
“Everybody in the White House, including the first lady, have issued denials that they wrote the anonymous op-ed about working against you know who,” said co-host Whoopi Goldberg to the audience.
“I recall that Melania was also a birther,” co-host Sunny Hostin chimed in. “Weren’t those words very important?”
In her statement released this week, Melania Trump took the writer of the anonymous op-ed to task for going after the Trump administration.
“Freedom of speech is an important pillar of our nation’s founding principles and a free press is important to our democracy. The press should be fair, unbiased and responsible,” she wrote in a statement to CNN.
“Unidentified sources have become the majority of the voices people hear about in today’s news. People with no names are writing our nation’s history. Words are important, and accusations can lead to severe consequences. If a person is bold enough to accuse people of negative actions, they have a responsibility to publicly stand by their words and people have the right to be able to defend themselves.”

She added, “To the writer of the op-ed — you are not protecting this country, you are sabotaging it with your cowardly actions.”
Now the spokesperson and director of communications for Melania Trump, Stephanie Grisham, has lashed out at those co-hosts for their comments.

Grisham charged the program was “disrespectful” for criticizing Melania Trump for standing by her husband’s birther conspiracy theories, as Raw Story and other outlets have reported.
