Tom Selleck remains an avid supporter of gun rights, but his time on the National Rifle Association’s board of directors has come to an end.

Selleck, 73, is still a member of the NRA and has been for the past 65 years, but he resigned from his post with the pro-gun organization this week due to time restraints.

The star of “Blue Bloods” received the most votes among anyone in the NRA’s board election last year and has donated 11 guns, many of which he has used as movie props, to the NRA’s National Firearms Museum.

Selleck’s pro-gun stance drew national attention back in 1999, when Rosie O’Donnell attempted to grill him on it during his appearance on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show.” While O’Donnell went after him and the NRA, the “Magnum, P.I.” star kept his composure but also refused to back down from his pro-gun stance.

Most notably, he firmly asked O’Donnell, “Do you really think the Second Amendment to the Constitution is to guarantee hunting and target shooting? Do you really think that’s what the Founding Fathers meant?”

When speaking about mass shootings, he also said that the guns were not the issue but that there were other issues in society causing people to commit the crimes.

“In today’s world, someone who is suicidal sits [at] home, nurses their grievance, develops a rage and is just as suicidal, but they take 20 people with them,” he said. “There’s something that changed in the culture.”

Although there are plenty of celebrities in Hollywood today who are calling for more gun control, Selleck is not alone in his support for the Second Amendment.

Actors James Earl Jones and Chuck Norris are members who have expressed support for the organization.

In music, singers such as Miranda Lambert, Ted Nugent and Kaya Jones have done the same.
