At least one person believes former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick could be returning to the NFL: his lawyer.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Mark Geragos, who represents Kaepernick, suggested that both the Oakland Raiders and the New England Patriots are interested in signing his client.

Kaepernick, who turns 31 this fall, left the NFL last year after causing a whirlwind of controversy by beginning the national anthem kneeling movement — protests that continue to this day.

With only a so-so playing record, it seems unlikely that a team would be interested in the former quarterback, but his lawyer is pushing the narrative all the same.

“I would just say, ‘Stay tuned’ … that next week there may be some news,” Geragos told TMZ about Kaepernick’s return to the sports league.

When pushed for more specifics, Geragos started dropping a few hints.

“I’ll say this … if Al Davis was still alive,” he said, not quite finishing the thought there.

That’s a clue that points toward the Oakland Raiders. The late Al Davis owned the Oakland Raiders and the team is now owned by his son, Mark.

Mark Davis recently told TMZ that it was a good idea for Nike to hire Kaepernick as a spokesperson.

The other hint from Geragos pointed to the New England Patriots.

When TMZ asked if Geragos had heard rapper Meek Mill was working on a song about Kaepernick, Geragos asked, “You know who Meek Mill was visited by when he was in custody?”

The answer he was looking for was Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots.

It would be surprising at this point if Kaepernick even wanted to go back to the football field.

While it’s highly unlikely any team would sign Kaepernick at this point, the Patriots certainly seem the least likely.

Robert Kraft and coach Bill Belichick are reportedly Trump supporters, and star quarterback Tom Brady is friendly with the president.

It would be surprising at this point if Kaepernick even wanted to go back to the football field.

After all, he’s become more successful than ever before since leaving the league behind.

He has a book deal, a television deal, several media awards, and now a big advertising contract with Nike.

And on the latter point, there’s this: Nike has sold out 61 percent more merchandise since the Kaepernick ad appeared earlier this month. That’s according to data on the company’s online sales from Thomson Reuters Proprietary Research, as Reuters and the New York Post reported.

Kaepernick, who sparked a national controversy by kneeling during the national anthem, first tweeted the ad on Labor Day weekend, which immediately sparked demands for a boycott of the company’s products.
