Actor and activist Jim Carrey recently shared some advice for Democrats when he appeared on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” this past weekend.

“We have to say yes to socialism — to the word and everything,” the millionaire filmmaker declared.

“We have to stop apologizing,” he added.

The comment came after host Bill Maher expressed outrage that members of the Republican Party have been attacking Democrats who express a love for socialism.

“But that word — the Democrats need to get a plan to fight this slander of, ‘Socialism, you’re going to be living in Venezuela,’” said Maher.

“And I don’t see it yet.”

Faith leader Franklin Graham — a son of evangelist Billy Graham — shared these thoughts about Carrey’s remarks on Facebook with his followers: “Jim Carrey is urging Democrats to ‘say yes to socialism’ and stop apologizing. It was a very revealing interview with Bill Maher who shared that Democrats were ‘sort of’ rediscovering who they are. It sounds to me like they should rediscover who they WERE.”

He added, “Winston Churchill wisely said, ‘Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.’ He also said, ‘The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.'”

“Under socialism in Eastern Europe,” Graham continued, “churches were burned and pastors were imprisoned. In Russia, every Orthodox priest was killed. Just 90 miles from our shores, the people of Cuba have lived in misery for years. The Castros killed hundreds of priests and pastors and imprisoned others. Venezuela today is experiencing a historic human migration as millions are fleeing socialism and the poverty that it brings. Pray that the American people will see the truth of socialism and reject every politician and party which embraces it.”

The “Dumb and Dumber” star — as is well known by many — worked his way up from standup comedian in Canada to one of the biggest movie stars in America. He went from small parts in films like 1988’s “The Dead Pool” to lead roles in ’90s classics such as “Liar Liar” and “The Mask.”

For Carrey, it came down to hard work, perseverance, and ambition. When he appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s former television program back in 1997, he told the story of how he would drive down Mulholland Boulevard in Los Angeles years ago to give himself a sense of the things he wanted to earn through hard work and ambition.

He said the idea was to convince himself that the things he was working for were out there — he just hadn’t gotten them yet.

The comedian also revealed that he wrote himself a $10 million check for “acting services rendered” while he was still a struggling performer.

“I gave myself five years, three years maybe [to earn that money], and I dated it Thanksgiving, 1995, and I put in in my wallet and I kept it there. It deteriorated and deteriorated, but then just before Thanksgiving, 1995, I found out I was going to make $10 million,” said Carrey.

The $10 million payday was for the hit film “Dumb and Dumber.”

The 56-year-old Carrey, who is very comfortable, is now reportedly one of the richest men in Hollywood. Carrey is currently promoting his brand new series, “Kidding,” which airs Sundays on Showtime.

Here is some of the feedback on Carrey’s comments:

“Jim Carrey is no authority on anything.”

“He really is dumber and dumber!”

“I am a socialist Democrat. I am proud to be me. I CARE for everyone & for the Earth & for the animals.”

“Jim can keep his comments to himself. He does not think for me — I do.”
