Democratic senators’ and liberal activists’ disruptions of Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing Tuesday put Republicans in a “really good” position for the 2018 and 2020 elections, according to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.

“I thought it was an embarrassment for the Democrat Party — but frankly, not surprising at all,” Sanders said Wednesday during the “Fox & Friends” morning show on Fox News.

“I also think it’s great news for Republicans,” she added, “because if this is what we’re up against in 2018, and particularly the auditions that we saw for the 2020 presidential race that took place yesterday, I think we’re in great shape, and we’re going to look really good in both 2018 and 2020.”

Even before President Donald Trump nominated Kavanaugh on July 9 to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court, Senate Democrats were plotting how to prevent the traditional confirmation process from going forward.

Democratic senators also claimed Kavanaugh’s confirmation should be postponed until after the November midterm elections occurred, thus giving them a chance to retake the majority and scuttle the nomination altogether.

Tuesday’s hearing devolved into bouts of histrionics from Democratic senators and liberal activists in the audience alike, whose shouting interrupted the hearing’s opening proceedings more than 60 times. Nearly two dozen hecklers in the audience were removed from the hearing.

Potential 2020 presidential contenders such as Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) were among the most disruptive senators.

Democrats also sought to delay Kavanaugh’s confirmation process by demanding copies of an estimated 1 million documents from Kavanaugh’s time as former President George W. Bush’s staff secretary. Kavanaugh also worked as an attorney for Kenneth Starr’s Whitewater-Lewinsky investigation of former President Bill Clinton.

“This isn’t about documents. It’s about ridiculous political ploys that the Democrats are trying to play,” Sanders said. “Kavanaugh and his team and our team here at the White House have turned over hundreds of thousands of pages of documents. There’s also tons of public opinion and record that have been out on Kavanaugh.”

“If Democrats can’t figure out whether they’re a yes or a no based off of all that, frankly they shouldn’t be in the Senate,” Sanders added. “It is absolutely ridiculous the games they are playing.”

Noting that Democrats have been “opposing Kavanaugh before he was ever nominated” for the Supreme Court, Sanders said their “ridiculous delay tactics” won’t fool the American people.

“They were speaking out, saying they wouldn’t support President Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court. And what we saw yesterday was really an embarrassment by the Democrats,” she reiterated.
