Arizona’s Republican Sen. John McCain was elected six times by his fellow citizens to represent them in the U.S. Senate, and delegates to the 2008 Republican National Convention made him their party’s standard-bearer for president.

Along the way, McCain made legions of friends, frequently sparked political and ideological controversies among allies and opponents, and always followed the paths he believed to be honorable and right.

Mourners will gather at 10:00 a.m. (MST) Thursday at North Phoenix Baptist Church, following a brief service at the Arizona State Capital, during which McCain’s wife, Cindy, will pay her respects, according to Fox News.

Mourners are expected to line a 50-mile stretch of Interstate 17 to watch as the motorcade carrying McCain’s casket passes.

“When the motorcade arrives at North Phoenix Baptist Church, the Arizona National Guard Casket Team will retrieve Sen. McCain and proceed to the front of the church, where the casket will be placed. The memorial service will begin at approximately 10:00 a.m.,” according to McCain’s website.
