Hall of Fame running back and social activist Jim Brown recently ignited a firestorm by backing President Donald Trump’s call for respecting the American flag and the national anthem.

The prominent NFL star took it a step further by throwing his support behind President Trump’s forthcoming re-election bid for 2020.

Just as with many a would-be tackler in his NFL career, progressive activists found out it’s going to take a lot more than words to take down Jim Brown.

Brown appeared on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday to further explain his support for the president and “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

“Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade asked Brown to expand on what he liked that the president was doing.

“Well, to tell you the truth, there’s two things,” Brown said. “North Korea. That is highly important to me. Because the scenario there has changed, and he has made a change, and a few … couple of months ago I was looking at a nuclear war.”

“And so, he’s dealing with that gentleman that runs that country,” he continued, “in a way that makes me very proud of him [Donald Trump].”

When asked if President Trump was producing gains specifically for the black community, Brown gave a remarkable answer.

“Well, I’ll tell you, it’s very hard to produce for the black community in a certain way,” the former athlete responded. “The black community, and I’m a part of the black community, has a responsibility regardless of what the president does.”

“And if you have a homicide rate within your black community,” he continued, “then it’s not the president who’s created that homicide rate, it’s the black community itself that needs to address it.”

“So, I don’t want to just put everything on him,” he added. “And I’m sorry to say that the black community is not doing what we should do, and that includes myself. I can work hard, I can donate more money, I can go more places… but we have to be able to, as citizens, bring something that the president can join forces with and triple the effectiveness of it.”

Brown also said he does not believe the president is a racist, as many of his leftist critics have said.

The NFL legend didn’t stop at praising Trump.

He also doubled down on his criticism of national anthem kneelers.

“We should never denigrate our flag and our national anthem. We should always be Americans first, and we should work our butts off to do the right thing and to make it a better country. But to not respect your flag and national anthem is something I would never do,” he said when asked about the current controversy in the NFL.
