Liberal mainstream media journalists and talking heads “met their match” in President Donald Trump and his willingness to fight back, Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday on CBN’s “The Brody File” as the president escalated his war with CNN even further.

“All I know is, for a lot of the liberals in the national media, they met their match in President Donald Trump,” Pence said. “He understands that, look — the American people elected this man because he had a right vision for this country, but also because he’s a fighter.”

“[Trump is] willing to fight every day to move this country forward, to see jobs created, to see us reaffirm our commitment to those timeless principles in the Constitution, to see our military standing tall again, to see America respected in the world again, and to be able to take on his critics, one after another,” Pence continued.

“And the only thing I know for sure is that President Trump is going to keep on fighting, and we’re going to keep on winning for the American people,” he said.

Trump targeted CNN Wednesday and Thursday in a series of tweets amid the ongoing controversy surrounding a discredited story the cable outlet stubbornly refuses to abandon.

“CNN is being torn apart from within based on their being caught in a major lie and refusing to admit the mistake,” Trump began Wednesday. “Sloppy @carlbernstein, a man who lives in the past and thinks like a degenerate fool, making up story after story, is being laughed at all over the country! Fake News”

CNN published a report on July 27 about Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, called “Cohen claims Trump knew in advance of 2016 Trump Tower meeting,” citing “sources with knowledge.”

But the company stood by its reporting even though Cohen lawyer Lanny Davis admitted he was one of the report’s “sources with knowledge” and backed off the information he told CNN.

The report alleged that Cohen was prepared to tell special counsel Robert Mueller that Trump knew in advance of the infamous Trump Tower meeting in June 2016 as part of the probe into allegations of Russian collusion. Trump has repeatedly denied prior knowledge of the meeting.

To make matters even worse for CNN, the report’s three authors — one of whom was Bernstein — wrote in the piece, “Contacted by CNN, one of Cohen’s attorneys, Lanny Davis, declined to comment” — even though Davis now admits he was one of those “sources of knowledge” for CNN.

Bernstein responded to Trump’s jab, tweeting, “.@realdonaldtrump- I have spent my life as a journalist bringing the truth to light, through administrations of both parties. No taunt will diminish my commitment to that mission, which is the essential role of a free press. @CNN stands by its story, and I stand by my reporting.”

CNN Communications’ Twitter account fired back, “Make no mistake, Mr. President, CNN does not lie. We report the news. And we report when people in power tell lies. CNN stands by our reporting and our reporters. There may be many fools in this story but @carlbernstein is not one of them.”

Trump then unleashed more scathing tweets Thursday.

“The hatred and extreme bias of me by @CNN has clouded their thinking and made them unable to function. But actually, as I have always said, this has been going on for a long time. Little Jeff Z [Zucker] has done a terrible job, his ratings suck, & AT&T should fire him to save credibility!” Trump insisted.

“I just cannot state strongly enough how totally dishonest much of the Media is,” Trump added. “Truth doesn’t matter to them, they only have their hatred & agenda. This includes fake books, which come out about me all the time, always anonymous sources, and are pure fiction. Enemy of the People!”

Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said Thursday on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” that “CNN gets a lot wrong” when it comes to covering Trump, his campaign, and his administration.

“I think the reason is because there’s such a velocity and direction in the press to accept any … assertion that Trump did wrong, particularly with Russia,” Fleischer said. “CNN and many of the media are so invested in wanting to get Donald Trump over Russia and collusion that they drop their normal editorial filters and they put things on the air that they should not put on the air.”

“And then once something goes wrong, they refuse to acknowledge it,” Fleischer added. “What has gotten CNN into so much trouble now over the ‘Trump knew in advance about the Trump Tower meeting with Michael Cohen saying it,’ they’re too invested, so they don’t do their due diligence.”
