“[Mueller] is sitting on top of a totally illegitimate investigation,” Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s lawyer, said emphatically Wednesday night on Fox News’ “Hannity.”

Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, noted that special counsel Robert Mueller “doesn’t seem to care” that he’s leading the investigative charge on what Trump has repeatedly characterized as a “witch hunt” and Giuliani says is “corrupt through and through.”

He concurred with host Sean Hannity’s observation that the purchase of the infamous Steele dossier by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) was “designed to misinform the American people with Russian lies to influence the election.”

Giuliani characterized the shady Steele dossier situation as “probably the biggest illegality so far.”

He suggested the FBI’s actions with respect to the dossier could itself constitute collusion — intimating that Mueller and his “band of whatever they are — Democrats” are something less than “fair-minded.”

“Where’s the sense of justice on the part of Mueller, on the part of the Justice Department?” he asked, further noting the troubling nature of “irregularities,” “unethical conduct,”  and “double standards” that have plagued the investigation since its inception.

“[That] people [who] hate Trump were put into primary positions of power has completely tainted this investigation,” he said.

“If [the investigation] isn’t over by September,” said Giuliani, “then we have a very, very serious violation of the Justice Department rules that you shouldn’t be conducting one of these investigations in a 60-day period.”

Giuliani also explained that the legal team offered Mueller a “form of questioning.” Since Mueller already knows the answers to the questions he plans to ask, Giuliani said, the motivation to put Trump under oath may have more to do with setting a perjury trap than for a search for truth.

“Stop the nonsense. You are trying to trap him into perjury ’cause you don’t have a case.”

“Why do you want to get him under oath? You think we’re fools?” he said, laughing.

“Stop the nonsense. You are trying to trap him into perjury ’cause you don’t have a case.”

“There’s a lot more to what they did that nobody knows about yet,” he added, “a lot more to the obstruction of justice, the collusion.” He also included his prediction that the investigation was going to “blow up” on them.

“You know how sometimes the cover-up is worse than the crime? In this case, the investigation was much worse than the ‘no-crime.’ The president did nothing wrong.”
