This will be a “big week” for Robert Mueller’s Russia probe as President Donald Trump’s legal team awaits the special counsel’s response to the Trump interview counteroffer, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani predicted Monday during an interview on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

“I think [Mueller] will give us a decision this week on our counterproposal. We are coming down to his looking really bad by interfering in the election. I think he has to get it over with by the beginning [of] or early September,” said Giuliani, a member of Trump’s legal team.

Giuliani has pushed for Mueller to end his probe into allegations of collusion between Trump campaign officials and Russian interests well before the November midterm elections.

“Absolutely it should be terminated,” Giuliani said of the probe. “[Mueller] should put out his report, tell the American people what he has and they can evaluate it. They are entitled to this information … he shouldn’t hold it try to manipulate the election the way [former FBI Director James] Comey did. I don’t think he wants to do that.”

Mueller, who entered his second year helming the investigation in May, has sought Trump’s testimony for months on a number of topics, including allegations of collusion and accusations of obstruction of justice in the May 2017 firing of Comey.

But Trump’s lawyers sent Mueller’s team a counteroffer for a potential interview with Trump last week. Although the president’s lawyers have not disclosed the counteroffer’s details, they reportedly are concerned about the obstruction of justice questions Mueller wants to ask.

Although Trump has insisted that he wants to sit down with Mueller and clear his name, his attorneys have sternly and repeatedly warned against the dangers of doing so, citing concerns of a perjury trap.

But when asked if he believes Mueller could have any damaging proof against Trump that his lawyers don’t know about, Giuliani replied, “No.”

“Because I’ve been through everything. I’ve talked to the president,” Giuliani said. “The president’s an honest man. He did nothing wrong, hasn’t done anything wrong. Throughout this he’s said, ‘Give them all the documents.'”

Jay Sekulow, one of Trump’s lawyers, warned Wednesday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” that there is no “such thing as a fair shake” for Trump if he ends up sitting down for an interview with Mueller.

“I’m not inclined to believe at this point, in the nature and scope of where this investigation is, that there is such a thing as a fair shake,” Sekulow said. “This is an investigation that [from] its outset has been corrupt. There’s no question about that … I think it needs to end very soon.”

Sekulow also insisted that Trump’s legal team “is not walking this president toward a perjury trap — not going to happen.”

“If there’s any type of interview, whether it’s written or otherwise, it will be the appropriate type of response,” Sekulow added.
