The deadly shooting at the Madden video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday claimed two innocent lives and left 11 wounded; the gunman also took his own life.

Jacksonville authorities later identified the shooter as 24-year-old David Katz of Baltimore, Maryland.

Katz himself was competing in the tournament, but his motive in firing multiple shots in the crowded bar where the event was being held is, as of now, still unknown.

The location of the tragedy, a shopping center and event space called Jacksonville Landing (shown in the image above this piece), is reportedly a gun-free zone, according to Breitbart — leaving it forever a mystery as to whether an armed person could have helped avert the deadly crime.

Jacksonville Landing’s “Rules of Conduct” clearly prohibit the possession of firearms, noted Breitbart.

The rules read: “Possession of a weapon, even if legally carried (except by law enforcement officers) is absolutely prohibited on Landing property.”

One need look no further than Chicago — that city seemingly under siege by violent criminals, with many deadly shootings this summer — to get a sense of why restrictive gun laws aren’t the answer to safer cities.

“[Illinois] is, for example, one of five states that prohibit gun owners from carrying handguns that are visible to the public, while 31 other states allow for what’s known as the ‘open carry’ of a firearm — no permit required — though in some cases the gun must be unloaded,” noted the Chicago Tribune in 2017.

Of course, leftists and Hollywood elites are using the Jacksonville tragedy to call for stricter gun laws — and to participate in one of their favorite pastimes — bashing the NRA.

Social media rantings from West Coast liberals aside, true heroes have emerged from the tragedy.

Firefighters were conducting elevator training at a parking garage near the Jacksonville Landing when they suddenly noticed something strange — people running away.

A man walked over, said he had been shot, and rescuers leapt into action, reported WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia.

“At that point, training, experience and instinct take over,” a post from the Jacksonville fire station who responded explained. “A few of us tended to the injured guy who approached us, and the rest of us formed a team and moved cautiously across the street to the restaurant this guy came from.”

Officials also said in that same post, “Our active-shooting training told us the scene needed to be cleared by JSO [Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office] before we were to enter, fortunately, JSO was quick to act on this day.”

Some firefighters went inside, even though the scene was still active.

They started checking out victims, officials said.
