A Florida police officer’s random act of kindness helped a homeless man land gainful employment at a McDonald’s.

Tallahassee police officer Tony Carlson approached the man — who was identified only as “Phil” — and helped him tighten the screws on his razor.

Phil told the officer he needed to shave for a job interview, so Carlson gave him a hand.

“He asked me if I knew anything about fixing a razor ’cause it was broken,” Officer Carlson said, according to KCTV. “I looked at it and it was missing a screw. Obviously, I didn’t have another screw, so I just tightened up the other one to the point [that] it would work.”

A man named Greg Wallenfelsz, who witnessed the actions of the officer who went above and beyond the line of duty, captured the act of kindness toward a fellow citizen on video.

The feel-good story soon went viral.

It turns out the story has a happy ending, or rather, a new beginning for Phil. The Tallahassee Police Department announced that Phil netted himself a new job.

“#GoodNews Phillip aka ‘Phil’ started his new job today at @McDonalds!” the Tallahassee Police Department tweeted. “We couldn’t be more proud! The way #Tallahassee has come together to help has been amazing to say the least. We were all reminded this week how a little #kindness can go a long way. #TeamPhil”

“The lady told me if I can show up Monday clean with my beard cut off, they’ll promise me a job,” Phil told local radio personality Greg Tish. “I was out here trying to shave, but I can’t see ’cause I don’t have a mirror, so the Tallahassee Police Department shaved me up the rest of the way.”
