Entrepreneur and “Pawn Stars” cast member Rick Harrison stood up for capitalism in a Sunday interview on Fox News’ “Life, Liberty & Levin.”

Speaking with host Mark Levin, Harrison summed up capitalism this way: “It’s survival of the fittest and in the end, everyone has a better life because of it.”

The business owner then gave an example of the wonders of a free market by providing an historical example.

Harrison recounted how the best watches were made in London in 1850. However, America quickly surpassed England in the market — and by 1890 the U.S. was the leading watchmaker in the world.

London watches had trouble developing beyond a certain point. The products were bogged down by red tape in the U.K. — 17 different unions had to be involved.

Capitalism and the free market allowed American watches to progress and provide people with the best product for the best price.

“There are a million examples out there” of capitalism at work, Harrison said.

He added, “Socialism doesn’t work. Big government doesn’t work.”

The 53-year-old television star knows a thing or two about capitalism. In addition to running the Las Vegas pawn shop at the center of History Channel’s immensely successful “Pawn Stars,” he is opening a new store in Vegas called Rick’s Picks, according to a recent announcement. The store apparently will be filled with rare items including dinosaur bones, firearms, meteor pieces, and much more.

Meanwhile, more than 500 episodes of “Pawn Stars” have aired, and the show continues to be one of the most successful unscripted programs of all time.
