President Donald Trump late Friday all but begged Democrats not to throw House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi under the bus if they oust the Republican majority in the November midterm.

“Democrats, please do not distance yourselves from Nancy Pelosi. She is a wonderful person whose ideas & policies may be bad, but who should definitely be given a 4th chance. She is trying very hard & has every right to take down the Democrat Party if she has veered too far left!” Trump tweeted, tongue firmly planted in cheek.

The president’s message may have been prompted by a new NBC survey that found at least 50 Democrats — either challengers seeking House seats or incumbents favored for re-election — have said they will not support Pelosi for another term as speaker of the House, should her party regain the majority.

Pelosi — who has represented the same San Francisco area district for 30 years — previously served as speaker from January 2007 to January 2011.

She was the first woman to be elected to the most visible job in the lower chamber of Congress.

But with the recent Democratic primary victory of 28-year-old Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez against incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.), who is a member of Pelosi’s current minority leadership team, the NBC survey highlights the growing attention being paid to the youth movement in the party.

“Fifty Democrats running for the House say they won’t support the California lawmaker for speaker, according to an NBC News survey of candidates and their public statements,” NBC said.

“At least 42 of the party’s nominees for House seats have declared they will not back Pelosi, and nine incumbent Democratic lawmakers are on the record opposing her, bringing the total to 51.”

Perhaps even more worrisome for Pelosi is that NBC says there are 34 Democratic nominees for House seats who won’t say one way or the other how they would vote if Pelosi seeks the post again. That’s a clear sign a significant number of Democrats hope to see a new face, but are hedging their bets for now.

Tezlyn Figaro, a former campaign official for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in his unsuccessful 2016 Democratic presidential primary race, told Fox News host Laura Ingraham Friday night on “The Ingraham Angle” that change is afoot among Democrats.

“Well, it’s funny you ask me what I see because I feel like I’m a prophet … Just last week I prophesied that with the blue wave, somebody was bound to drown,” Figaro said.

Pelosi “kind of reminds me of that old stalker girlfriend who just refuses to stop calling on the phone, over and over, repeatedly.”

“At the end of the day, people are ready to move on. It’s not just the Democrats who are saying they want to get rid of Nancy Pelosi, but also Republicans and independents as well. Three-quarters of Americans, according to polls, say the time is over for Nancy Pelosi.”

Figaro also reminded Ingraham’s viewers that “people thought it was a joke” in 2016 when Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) mounted a futile challenge to Pelosi’s position as minority leader. But while some 20 Democratic leaders were saying in June they wouldn’t support Pelosi, there are now more than 50 in August.
