Actress Quits Twitter Because of the PC Police — Where Does This End?

Actress Ruby Rose has quit Twitter over the harassment she received for her recent casting decision to play Batwoman in the ongoing CW/DC universe of shows that include “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” and “Legends of Tomorrow.”

Rose currently stars in the Jason Statham blockbuster “The Meg.” She’s still set to play her role during the CW/DC crossover event in December, but she won’t be interacting with fans on social media.

In addition to deleting her Twitter account, she also scaled back her Instagram account and limited commenting on her posts to only the people she follows.

The reason for the harassment of Rose? It was mostly because her version of Batwoman will be a lesbian in the fictional universe. Rose recently said on Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show that playing the character meant a lot to her, since she’s identified as a lesbian since she was 12 years old.

“I feel like the reason I get so emotional, growing up watching TV, I never saw somebody on TV that I could identify with, let alone a superhero,” Rose said. “I have always had this saying — I mean, not me, Oscar Wilde — which is, ‘Be yourself because everyone else is taken.’ So I always live by that motto, and the second motto when I came into the industry was, ‘Be the person that you needed when you were younger.’ I feel like one motto led to another.”

One might assume the online harassment she received had something to do with fans’ upset over the sex of her character; but the brunt of it came from overly PC keyboard warriors who blasted Rose’s casting and said she could not play a lesbian character because she is not a lesbian.

The harassment was, of course, based on a falsehood — and was completely ridiculous. But when has that ever stopped the PC police?

“Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from — has to be the funniest, most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ — how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change,” read Rose’s last tweet before she exited Twitter.

Rose follows actresses such as Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”) and Kelly Marie Tran (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi”) in leaving Twitter due to harassing messages.

Enough listening to the trolls and the hate-filled critics on social media.

Two other artists recently lost major gigs due to controversial tweets.

Disney fired “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn was for past jokes he made about pedophilia, and ABC canned Roseanne Barr for a tweet many deemed racist.

People are “weaponizing” social media much more this year than they did before. Those looking to push political correctness and groupthink are often blind with rage behind their keyboards — and they’re moving from one target to the next in their quest to “rid” the world of everything good and original.

Where does it end? Celebs back off social media entirely and people lose their jobs if they don’t always say the “right” thing?

Enough listening to the trolls and the hate-filled critics on social media. The more companies listen to them and the more people with opinions are bothered by them, the more they matter.

Ignore them. Their only power is attention — and right now they have a lot of it.
