Olympic skier Bode Miller and his wife, Morgan Beck Miller, have a powerful and emotional warning for all parents, in an interview they did with the “Today” show that aired early this week.

Five weeks after the drowning death of their 19-month-old daughter, Emaline, the couple sat down with host Savannah Guthrie at their home in California to talk about their loss, urging parents to take drowning dangers seriously. (See the video below for details.)

“I can attest from firsthand experience now that it’s unbelievably quick, and it’s unbelievably sneaky,” said Miller.

“You’d think it’d be, like, some weird circumstance or some strange thing,” the 40-year-old added. “And, it’s not. It just happens in the blink of an eye.”

His wife weighed in on just how quickly a drowning occurs — especially with a child.

“And it is literally — a child under 30 pounds can drown in 30 seconds,” said Morgan Beck Miller. “And I just keep counting to 30 in my head. That was all I needed. And so, it’s one of those things where, as a parent now, when you go to someone else’s house, survey the home to see if it’s a safe place for your child to be.”

The Orange County Fire Department said paramedics rushed to the scene and performed CPR on little Emaline before transporting her to a nearby hospital — but she was unable to be resuscitated.

While Miller was not present when the accidental drowning took place, his wife was inside the neighbor’s home they were visiting when their daughter left her sight for a very short amount of time, as People reported.

Miller and Beck Miller also have a three-year-old son, Nash Skan. And Miller is father as well to two children from previous relationships, daughter Neesyn, 10, and son Samuel, five.

Weeks before Emaline’s death, the couple announced via Instagram that they were expecting their third child together.
