In a disturbing sign of the times, up to 150 autistic teenagers in the United Kingdom allegedly have been given sex-change drugs, despite worries that they may not be transgender at all, a Daily Mail article noted.

Britain’s only National Health Service (NHS) clinic for transgenders is being blamed.

Called “puberty blockers,” the sex-changing drugs are often the first step in the gender reassignment process. These “blockers” also go by the names puberty inhibitors, puberty suppressors, and hormone suppressors — which stop the body from maturing.

“The NHS needs to fully investigate this,” said David Davies, a member of Parliament. “It would be an absolute scandal if, 20 years from now, we discovered a load of people who are not transgender at all had been stuck on to a medical pathway because NHS personnel were told not to challenge young people who said they were transgender.”

The proportion of youngsters with autistic traits seen at London’s Tavistock Clinic is revealed in a new “practice review” written by leading clinicians at its Gender Identity Development Service, or GIDS, the Daily Mail article also noted.

It reads: “A range of psychometric measures are used to assess behavioral and emotional functioning, including features of autistic spectrum disorder and self-harm. Around 35 per cent of referred young people present with moderate to severe autistic traits.”

The percentage pertaining to the 150 teens was based on the 1,069 children and teenagers who were referred to the clinic between 2011 and last year.

Not everyone is falling for the rampant transgender mythology.

“Over the past decade numerous studies have documented that children on the autism spectrum are overrepresented among those who meet criteria for gender dysphoria,” Michelle Cretella, executive director of the American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds), told LifeZette by email.

“It is not surprising that autistic children would be especially vulnerable to transgender marketing and propaganda.”

“It is not surprising that autistic children would be especially vulnerable to transgender marketing and propaganda,” she said. “Autistic children are neurologically different. They have difficulty with socialization, tend to understand things only in a literal sense, cannot read body language, and perseverate on specific things or ideas.”

She added, “These children typically feel different from preschool forward because they, in fact, are different from their peers. They tend to experience greater angst in navigating the typical trials of adolescence. They’re more likely, therefore, to believe the lie that all of their depression, anxiety and feelings of being different are due to being ‘trapped’ in the wrong body.”

Equally egregious amid the allegations against the NHS: Clinicians are being discouraged from questioning gender beliefs, due in part to a recent memorandum of understanding banning “conversion therapy” by the U.K. Council for Psychotherapy.

Conversely, ACPeds, based in Gainesville, Florida, holds fast to the belief that gender ideology harms children.

“Gender dysphoria (GD) of childhood describes a psychological condition in which children experience a marked incongruence between their experienced gender and the gender associated with their biological sex,” the group says on its website.

“When this occurs in the pre-pubertal child, GD resolves in the vast majority of patients by late adolescence,” it continues. “Currently, there is a vigorous debate among physicians, therapists, and academics regarding what is fast becoming the new treatment standard for GD in children. This new paradigm is rooted in the assumption that GD is innate, but a review of the current literature suggests that this claim is founded upon an unscientific gender ideology and lacks an evidence base.”

“The entire LGBT lobby has gained significant power, and the ability to bully all opposition into silence, by enshrining in law the lie that people are born LGBT and cannot change,” added Cretella. “Once the activists managed to get the law to falsely equate LGBT with skin color, this rendered any critical assessment or alleged treatment of even unwanted same-sex attractions and gender dysphoria racist and bigoted.”
