Bill Shine is expected to be announced today as the new White House communications director, according to media reports and industry sources.

Shine would replace Hope Hicks, who left the White House in March. He has spent significant time talking informally with President Donald Trump in recent weeks at the chief executive’s Mar a Lago facility.

Fox News host Sean Hannity has been a central figure in moving a Shine appointment from recurring rumor — since Trump’s first day in the Oval Office — to an expected reality Wednesday.

The communications director position has been a tough one, with former Republican National Committee spokesman Sean Spicer holding the job in the opening months of the Trump administration.

When Spicer left, Anthony Scaramucci briefly held the post, but was forced out when an expletive-filled interview with The New Yorker became public. Hicks took over from Scaramucci, but she had previously planned to exit the White House earlier this year.

Shine was a longtime fixture in the corporate suite at Fox News but was forced out in the sexual harassment scandal that also led to the departure of Fox News founder Roger Ailes. Shine denied all of the allegations.
