Roseanne Barr hasn’t drummed up much Hollywood support since her firing from her own hit show after a controversial tweet that was deemed racist by many.

One comedian, however, has come forward to say that Barr’s firing may have gone too far.

“I didn’t see why it was necessary to fire her,” Jerry Seinfeld recently told “Entertainment Tonight” about the Barr situation. “Why would you murder someone who’s committing suicide?”

He continued, “I never saw someone ruin their entire career with one button push. That was fresh.”

Since firing Barr and canceling the second season of “Roseanne,” ABC has announced that it will be continuing the comedian’s creation through “The Conners,” a spinoff show that will feature all the characters except for Barr’s.

Seinfeld believes cutting a character was a foolish decision. “I think they should get another Roseanne. They brought Dan Conner back — he was dead and they brought him back. So why can’t we get another Roseanne? There’s other funny women that could do that part. You need to get the comic in there. I hate to see a comic lose a job,” he said.

Barr has defended herself since her bad-taste joke and firing by saying she was impaired at the time on Ambien. She also said in a recent podcast interview that she is willfully accepting whatever consequences come her way.

“I said to God, ‘I am willing to accept whatever consequences this brings because I know I’ve done wrong. I’m going to accept what the consequences are,’ and I do, and I have,” she said.

She added, however, that her attempts to make amends seem to be doing little good.

“They don’t ever stop. They don’t accept my apology, or explanation. And I’ve made myself a hate magnet. And as a Jew, it’s just horrible. It’s horrible.”
