Georgetown University Law School is making news — not for academic excellence, but for a social justice “sleight of hand.” It urged its students to donate “time and money” to left-wing causes on a now-deleted web page.

At least 13,000 people signed a petition to “peacefully protest” the school after TFP Student Action, an organization committed to traditional values, noticed that a web page encouraged students to support organizations hostile toward conservative values.

The groups that apparently “need” support include Planned Parenthood, the Southern Poverty Law Center, the ACLU, and NARAL Pro-Choice America, among other far-Left causes.

The web page, carrying the title “A Brief History of Civil Rights in the United States,” told its visitors: “One way to resist oppression is to strengthen the organizations that fight against oppressors. You can make a change, even if it’s just an hour a week or a dollar a week. If we all give just a little, it adds up and it keeps our civil rights, our environment — our nation — from being destroyed.”

As Campus Reform noted, however, the questionable web page now no longer exists.

An excerpt from the petition explains the intent:

Although these groups trample church teaching by promoting abortion and the destruction of God’s marriage, Georgetown tells web visitors to support them with time and money.

Ironically, the Georgetown Law Library web page, dedicated to the history of “civil rights,” includes a pitch to support pro-abortion groups that deny the first and most basic right — namely, the right to life.

What might be even worse, Georgetown hired the senior associate general counsel and director of advocacy and political law of Planned Parenthood, Prof. Zoe Segal-Reichlin, to teach law at its Catholic campus.

This is not the first time Georgetown Law — located in the nation’s capital — has landed in hot water over bias against traditional sensibilities.

In February, Alliance Defending Freedom, based in Scottsdale, Arizona, alleged that Georgetown, the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit university, not only misappropriated donations intended for the pro-family student organization Love Saxa, but also illegally deposited those funds into the accounts of various LGBT groups on campus instead, as LifeZette reported.

LifeZette reached out to university spokesperson Matt Hill about the current issue, but did not hear back before the time of publication.

To quote the Cardinal Newman Society, “Since the 1960s, Catholics have witnessed a creeping secularism in Catholic education that has often corrupted teachings and behaviors — both inside and outside the classroom — and replaced authentic Catholic identity with bland conformity to a declining culture.”

Sadly, Georgetown Law School’s latest shenanigans align with this disparaging characterization.

One conservative was direct about what walking in faith requires. “You can’t be a good Catholic and at the same time favor Planned Parenthood,” TFP Director John Ritchie told Campus Reform.
