Liberal Twitter users and organizations instantly went into meltdown mode minutes after the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 on Monday that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission (CCRC) violated a Christian baker’s religious freedom.

The Supreme Court found that the CCRC violated Masterpiece Cakeshop owner Jack Phillips’ rights under the First Amendment’s free exercise clause by punishing him for refusing to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding.

Although Phillips said he would not create a custom cake for the wedding because it would violate his Christian convictions against same-sex marriage, he did not prohibit the couple from purchasing other products.

But it didn’t take long before liberal Twitter users shoved the case’s nuances aside.

They breathlessly berated the Supreme Court, misrepresented the ruling as a harbinger of widespread discrimination, dismissed Phillips’ Christian faith — and warned of a new era of bigotry.

“Harmful and disappointing ruling from the Supreme Court this morning. Companies shouldn’t discriminate against members of our community because of who they love and who they are, period,” Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) tweeted Monday.

She is expected to mount a run for her party’s 2020 presidential nomination.

Alex Morash, the ‎National LGBTQ Task Force’s ‎media and public relations director, decried the allegedly “right-wing zealots” who prevailed against the gay couple.

“While the religious right did not thrust a fatal blow into the heart of the LGBTQ movement with SCOTUS’s Masterpiece Cakeshop ruling, it did glance us,” Morash tweeted. “We must remember that right-wing zealots are gaining ground, if we don’t fight back all we’ve accomplished will soon be lost.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said freedom from discrimination based on “whom they love” is Americans’ “most fundamental right.”

“The right to be free from persecution & discrimination because of who they are or whom they love is the most fundamental right of every American. The Supreme Court’s Masterpiece Cakeshop decision fails to uphold equality,” Pelosi tweeted.

New York Times best-selling author Ijeoma Oluo emphasized that the high court ruling in favor of the Christian baker arrived during June, which is LGBT Pride Month. She also blamed President Donald Trump’s administration for the ruling, on which two justices appointed by Democratic presidents sided with the majority.

“Pride month, right? If you thought the battle for LGBTQ rights ended with marriage equality, this is one of the hundreds of ways you were wrong. This f***ing country. There is no excuse for not actively resisting this administration. None,” Oluo tweeted.

“Right now we have millions of hate-fueled Trump supporters who are eager to use this decision to justify their open discrimination against LGBTQ people. And they know that support for their hatred goes all the way to the presidency.”

Openly gay Utah state Sen. Jim Dabakis, a Democrat, tweeted, “BREAKING … Supreme Court Hits LGBTQ Americans with gut punch. Says Colorado baker can discriminate. Now, any homophobic bubba who says his religious views are offended — can discriminate. Not my America.”

Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman, whom several women have accused of sexually harassing them, tied the ruling to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan, tweeting, “Congrats America!! You are free to discriminate at will. #Maga.”

Laurence Tribe, a Harvard Law professor and co-author of “To End a Presidency: The Power of Impeachment,” compared the ruling to a skewed interpretation of Trump’s travel ban executive order preventing travel from several Muslim-majority countries posing terrorism threats.

“Justice Kennedy’s narrow 7-2 Court opinion for the baker invoked anti-Christian animus by a regulator who declined to apply the anti-discrimination statute. Let’s see if Kennedy and the other six Justices invoke Trump’s overt anti-Muslim animus to strike down his travel ban,” Tribe tweeted.

Salon politics writer Chauncey DeVega warned, “With this #SCOTUS Masterpiece Cakeshop decision can white revanchist racists and other bigots cite the Curse of Ham and refuse to provide goods and services and public accommodations to black people? Trump and the Republican Party’s America. Christian nationalists too.”

Danielle Moodie-Mills, a self-described “warrior princess of the #resistance” and host of #WokeAF on SiriusXM Progress Channel 127, tweeted, “America has just codified discrimination with the Masterpieca [sic] cake descion [sic]. So for all of you people who voted for Trump and want to continue to feign economic anxiety and not own what you are … this is on YOU. #SCOTUS.”

Writer and comedian Nick Jack Pappas insisted that business owners should now discriminate against Trump-supporting Americans wearing MAGA hats and claim that serving them would violate their “sincerely held religious belief.”

“Remember everyone, if you have a ‘sincerely held religious belief’ against someone wearing a MAGA hat, you no longer have to provide service to them,” Pappas tweeted. “Anyone who has a problem with that should be against the Supreme Court’s ruling today. It works both ways.”
