Liberal lawmakers and pundits promptly erupted into hysterics Tuesday after the Supreme Court delivered a major victory to President Donald Trump with a ruling that his so-called travel ban was constitutional after all.

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) warned Tuesday, for example, on “MSNBC Live” that the court ruled “that the president can pretty much … do whatever he wants to discriminate against groups of people and say it’s for national security.”

“I say, who is going to be next? Is the president going to issue an executive order against Mexicans?” Hirono continued. “Is he going to issue executive orders against people coming from Honduras, Guatemala? What’s next?”

The 5-4 decision found that both the Constitution and congressional legislation authorized Trump’s ability to protect U.S. national security interests by prohibiting travel temporarily from seven countries posing heightened security threats. But because most of the seven countries include Muslim-majority populations, many liberals labeled Trump’s executive order a “Muslim ban.”

Tuesday’s news spurred dazed liberals to bemoan Trump’s “bigotry and Islamophobia” in protecting national security interests through the travel ban, make wild claims, and issue apocalyptic predictions about the country’s future in the Trump era.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the first Muslim elected to Congress, claimed on Twitter that “the US Supreme Court just ratified Donald Trump’s ‘total and complete shutdown’ of Muslims entry into the United States” — even though the big majority of Muslims reside in countries not among the seven covered by the Trump ban.

Ellison also told CNN’s Kate Bolduan on “At This Hour” that Tuesday’s Supreme Court decision will fall into “the dustbin of history” because Trump shaped the court to “his ugly philosophy” by appointing Justice Neil Gorsuch to the bench.

“It just proves one thing, that if you steal and rip off a Supreme Court justice, then you can try to jam any kind of nasty, racist, ugly policy down the throats of the American people. But we’re not taking it,” Ellison said.

Liberal civil rights activist and columnist Shaun King lamented on Twitter, “Devastating news. The Supreme Court has just upheld Trump’s Muslim Ban — basically citing that he has the power to do such a thing. This never had anything to do with American safety. It was/is all about bigotry and Islamophobia. Shame on Trump and shame on this nation.”

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) told reporters Trump “wants to use something that our founders rejected, which is a religious test. And, again, there is a moral assault, moral vandalism going on.”

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) claimed on Twitter that the Supreme Court’s decision represented “an abdication of our moral leadership.”

Lawmakers and media members also bemoaned Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) successful delay game in staving off consideration of former President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, after Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s death in February 2016. McConnell’s tactic made Gorsuch’s nomination by Trump possible.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) tweeted, “The Supreme Court — thanks to a seat stolen by right-wing Republicans — just upheld Trump’s Muslim ban. While the Court ruled it’s legal, the American people still know it isn’t right. And together, we’ll keep fighting against religious discrimination, xenophobia, & hate.”

Newly converted Democrat Steve Schmidt claimed on MSNBC that the ruling “was a fantastic fulfillment of Osama bin Laden’s vision by Donald J. Trump,” heralding “a war of civilization, a war between the West and 1 billion Muslims.”

Justice and security analyst Matt Miller, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, said on “MSNBC Live” that “you now see Mitch McConnell taking credit because he held this seat open. He stole it from President Obama. And now he has upheld the eventual successor to President Trump’s Muslim ban. Congratulations to Mitch McConnell. That’s apparently what you wanted.”

“As one after another 5-4 rulings of this SCOTUS on voting rights, abortion rights, the travel ban and more are announced, the full meaning of @SenMajLdr ‘s unconscionable, nearly year- long blockade against the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland is manifest,” David Axelrod, CNN commentator and former chief strategist of Obama’s presidential campaigns, tweeted.

Liberal activist Linda Sarsour tweeted, “Sitting in my daughter’s high school graduation in tears. I have to tell my daughter who has been asking me for updates that #SCOTUS upheld the Muslim and Refugee Ban. That they decided on the side of xenophobia and racism. Devastated. #StandWithMuslims #NoMuslimBanEver.”
