Late-night host Samantha Bee’s Wednesday night monologue on her show, “Full Frontal,” included rhetoric so vile that parts of it are not fit to print here in their entirety.

The vulgarities she spewed included calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c***” and suggesting she “put on something tight and low cut” to speak with her father about immigration policy.

“Full Frontal” is broadcast on TBS — and both TBS and CNN are owned by Turner Broadcasting System, a division of Time Warner.

Bee’s obscene diatribe followed directly on the heels of Roseanne Barr’s controversial tweet the day before, which Bee also referenced.

Barr’s tweet involved a racist “bad joke” (her words) about former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. It resulted in ABC’s immediate cancellation of her successful, namesake show.

The TBS response to Bee’s misogynistic remark about current Trump adviser Ivanka Trump was … crickets, at least at first.

Bee was not fired, nor was her show canceled. Bee was not raked over the coals by the mainstream media. Bee was not castigated by countless celebrities for a “bad joke” intimating that Ivanka Trump — a successful businessperson, a wife, a mother, an author — should offer herself sexually to a sitting president (her father) to effect policy change. (And see the update, below.)

Conservatives have a few ideas for why things have gone down the way they have, and here’s one: The “rules” for what is and is not acceptable speech differ based on the political affiliation of the person delivering them.

So Bee, an outspoken Trump “resister,” is free to denigrate another woman on the clock. Roseanne Barr, a Trump supporter, is not free to tweet racist remarks, on the clock or off.

Sexist and racist remarks are foul, and the bulk of civil society rightly shuns them. This is the case whether they are uttered by a conservative, a liberal, a libertarian, an independent — anyone, period.

The abject hypocrisy in this case is impossible to ignore.

How is it acceptable, then, to overtly trumpet demeaning remarks about women? How is it acceptable to “joke” about incest?

In a single “joke,” Bee reduced Ivanka Trump to a foul term. In so doing, she degraded all women. If any term for women is near universally unacceptable, it is the word that Bee chose.

As if that were not bad enough on its own, the “joke” is clearly meant to suggest that a sitting president would engage in incestuous behavior and trade sexual favors for political ones.

This is why the public is disgusted with the media in general. The hypocrisy is impossible to ignore.

Update: Bee eventually apologized on Thursday, saying in a tweet: “I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”

TBS also released a statement regarding Bee’s comments: “Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night,” said the network. “Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.” It also told The Hill that no further action was planned against Bee at this time.

Autotrader also announced through Twitter it is pulling advertising from the show, and called Bee’s comments “unacceptable.”

Roseanne Barr apologized for her comments, and her show was still canceled. Think the same will happen for a liberal like Bee?
