Though he’s been a sharp Trump critic in the past, filmmaker and actor George Clooney is now praising the president for earning a sit-down meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

Will wonders never cease.

In an op-ed he co-wrote for Foreign Affairs magazine, Clooney said it was Trump’s sanctions that led to the historic meeting.

Clooney wrote:

Although it may be too early to say, the fact that Leader Kim Jong Un agreed to a moratorium on missile testing — and that there is now an expected meeting between Kim and President Donald Trump in the works (as controversial as it might be) — suggests that the sanctions over the last year or so have worked. So far, the current administration has sanctioned more North Korean targets than were sanctioned during the entire Obama presidency.

The rest of the article concerned corruption in Africa.

Clooney’s measured comments about the president have some people speculating he’s positioning himself to run for president in 2020.

Clooney has joked about being open to it in the past — but it’s unlikely.

The Hollywood star has always been politically outspoken, and he also has a number of projects in the works as a director.

One can only hope he’s simply moving himself more toward the middle of the political spectrum, where he is far more able to credit people based on their actions.
