Rokita Calls Pelosi’s Dreamer Filibuster ‘Ridiculous,’ Says She Ignored Cop Killed by Illegal

House minority leader never called family of a slain officer — but made time for an eight-hour speech in defense of DACA amnesty

Rep. Todd Rokita (R-Ind.) said it was “ridiculous” that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) defended illegal immigrants for eight hours straight on the House floor last week but failed to call family members of a California officer killed by an illegal immigrant in 2014. Rokita (shown second from right, above) spoke during an interview Monday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”

Pam Owens (shown far right), the aunt of slain Placer County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Davis Jr., told host Laura Ingraham that no congressional Democrats from her state called her after illegal immigrant Luis Bracamontes gunned down her nephew and Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver.

Bracamontes told the courtroom during his January trial that “I wish I had killed more of the motherf***ers.” But neither Pelosi nor California’s other Democratic lawmakers could be bothered to call her or advocate for victims of illegal immigrant criminals, Owens said.

“No Democrats. None at all,” Owens replied when Ingraham asked her if Democratic lawmakers had called her to offer their condolences.

“So Nancy Pelosi — who was on her feet for eight hours last week in the pseudo-filibuster for the illegal immigrants, so-called dreamers — she never picked up the phone to call you?” Ingraham asked Owens. Dreamers are would-be beneficiaries of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act.

“Nope,” Owens replied. “There wasn’t one Democrat.”

Ingraham expressed incredulity, saying, “A day that two [officers] were killed, we have an unremorseful, guilty-as-hell illegal immigrant in the United States who should have never been here, you didn’t get a call from Pelosi, [Sen. Dianne] Feinstein [D-Calif.], you didn’t get a call from the former mayor of San Francisco? None of these people called you? Not one person?”

Rokita ripped Pelosi for her eight-hour speaking marathon last week in support of illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. Pelosi refused to support the bipartisan budget deal unless Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) pledged to bring an amnesty vote to the House floor for illegal immigrants who qualified under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“Nancy Pelosi — I watched her — stood on the House floor for eight hours for illegal immigrants but wouldn’t do it for Mrs. Owens’ family. It’s ridiculous,” Rokita said. “For the first time in American history, we have a political party — the modern Democratic Party — who is putting the interests of illegal aliens, of lawbreakers, ahead of law-abiding citizens, Americans.”

Rokita noted that one of his own constituents, Jeffrey Monroe, was killed alongside Indianapolis Colts player Edwin Jackson by a twice-deported illegal immigrant on February 4.

“This was completely preventable. Had we had a wall, had we had a wall system, had we believed in enforcing federal immigration law, what happened to the Colts player and my constituent, Jeff Munroe, last week wouldn’t have happened,” Rokita said. “So these things are completely preventable.”

Owens shared Rokita’s sentiments, saying that her nephew’s death “was completely, totally, a murder that could have been avoided if the government had done the one thing they’re supposed to do, which is protect the citizens.”

Although Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas, shown above, far left) expressed sympathy for Owens and her family in their grief, he said “it doesn’t matter” to him whether or not an officer is killed by a U.S. citizen or an illegal immigrant.

“I can understand what she’s going through. I’ve got three brothers that are peace officers,” Cuellar said. “So I know what it is to have brothers that are peace officers and not knowing what could happen from one day to the other.”

“And again, to me it doesn’t matter if that person who killed a peace officer is documented, undocumented or somebody that’s here, you know — whoever goes after a peace officer, we need to make sure that we throw the book at that individual,” Cuellar said.

Ingraham rejected Cuellar’s reasoning, saying that Davis’ murderer “obviously shouldn’t have been in the country” in the first place.

“So they would still be alive, most likely be alive. That’s what makes it worse,” Ingraham said.

Lawmakers currently are embroiled in negotiations offering amnesty for up to 1.8 million illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children in exchange for border wall funding, border security measures, and an end to both chain migration and the visa lottery system.

Many Democrats, however, have signaled their unwillingness to accept DACA amnesty in exchange for President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement priorities.

“Republicans want to fix DACA far more than the Democrats do. The Dems had all three branches of government back in 2008-2011, and they decided not to do anything about DACA. They only want to use it as a campaign issue. Vote Republican!” Trump tweeted Saturday.

“For the DACA people, I do feel bad for them. I’m OK with a path to citizenship for the kids who were brought here — not for the parents who brought them, not for their aunts, uncles, cousins,” Owens said. “The government is here to protect the American citizens and the legal immigrants — not the illegal aliens.”
