The end of the year is a time to reflect on the past 12 months and look forward to the new year. The year 2018 will prove to be a destructive one for the Democratic Party.

While President Donald Trump is making significant progress in reforming the government and the economy, the Democrats are stuck on two issues. The first is the perceived collusion between Trump and the Russian government to steal the election away from Hillary Clinton. The second on their wish list is the impeachment of Trump and the removal of him from the presidency.

Let me take a moment to refresh readers’ minds about the impeachment process. The House of Representatives would bring the Bill of Impeachment, meaning the charges, as an indictment of the president.

The next step is the trial with the Senate as the jury and the chief justice of the Supreme Court as the trial judge. Only two presidents in U.S. history have been impeached: Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998.

Both were acquitted in the Senate and thus neither was removed from office. I question how many Americans believe that the Bill of Impeachment means the actual removal of the president — rather than the process described above.

One only has to listen to the rhetoric from Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) about impeaching Trump. In effect, I believe she and other Democrats are purposely misleading the American people that a Bill of Impeachment is the actual removal from office of the president.

Their focus is so intense they have missed what is going on in the country — and most importantly, they have not focused on what Trump has been doing to improve opportunity in America. They have had blinders on and could not and still do not see the forest for the trees.

The Democrats have already assumed they will win back the House in the 2018 midterms; they also believe they have a good chance of taking control of the Senate. They have said it, “therefore, it must be true.”

The other things going on in Washington, D.C., are of little matter to them. The Democrats are so focused on impeachment that they even made inane comments on the Republican tax bill. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said the bill was “apocalyptic.” In a subsequent interview, she said the GOP tax bill was “Armageddon” for the middle class.

Pelosi may have indirectly predicted the outcome of the midterm elections for her party. The minority party leader in the House and her counterpart in the Senate forgot and were ill-prepared regarding what the American people want.

“It’s the economy, stupid” is what cost the Democrats the 2016 presidential election. James Carville, a Democratic strategist, by the way, coined the economy phrase for Bill Clinton’s successful 1992 presidential campaign win over President George H.W. Bush, even though Ross Perot split the Republican Party.

The minority party leader in the House and her counterpart in the Senate forgot and were ill-prepared regarding what the American people want.

The Democrats are ignoring the change in momentum caused by the GOP tax bill and were caught flat-footed when companies like AT&T announced a $1,000 bonus for 200,000 workers.

In subsequent days, more companies announced increases in pay and other benefits to their employees because of the reduction of the corporate income tax rates in the GOP tax bill.

The desire to have a job is the issue that shows how deep a disconnect there is between many in the Democratic Party and the American middle class. Now we add Trump’s challenge to the stronghold of the Democratic Party, the black voter.

During the campaign, Trump asked this voter bloc around the nation a powerful question, “What do you have to lose?” The unemployment rate of African-Americans over age 16 is now at its lowest level in 16 years. Black people want jobs, and as the economy grows, more and more will gain employment.

The greater the number of people who see their success tied to Trump’s jobs programs, the more that will also see the foolishness of the Democrats who want to get rid of him.

The Washington Post recently ran an article on the Democratic brand. Research conducted by Stan Greenberg and Nancy Zdunkewicz found that only four in 10 voters said Democrats “know what it’s like to live a day in my shoes” and are “for the right kind of change.”

I believe that when we are sitting around our TVs in November 2018 watching the election results, we will hear the Democratic pundits asking the same questions they asked in November 2016: “How did this happen?”

The answer is simple: The Democratic Party has moved so far to the Left that the American people in record numbers will reject the party position of impeaching the president.

I do not expect this shift to take place at the last minute. Every month the economy adds more jobs, regardless of race. This momentum will build and reach a crescendo on election night.

If the president gets a massive infrastructure bill, economists will project massive jobs creation and Trump will be unbeatable — but the Democrats will still not give up on Russia and impeachment.
