The Democratic Party endorses open borders, the lottery system, chain migration, and nonenforcement of our existing laws. Why? Because mass immigration will result in Democratic voters’ domination of the country.

The Republicans nearly let them get away with it. Enter President Donald J. Trump. He showed courage and honesty by making immigration reform — a topic no one else wanted to touch — the keystone of his presidential campaign.

Trump recognizes that either we are a country of laws, or we are nothing. If millions of aliens are permitted to enter the U.S. illegally, and sanctuary cities and states can deliberately disregard federal statutes, then we no longer have a country.

The California attorney general has announced he will prosecute companies that abide by federal immigration law. We witnessed something similar in 1963 when Gov. George Wallace of Alabama tried to subvert federal civil rights laws.

Wallace conceded defeat when President John F. Kennedy intervened. If President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions do not act swiftly and decisively in California, our children will inherit a noncountry in which no one will be safe from those who would show contempt for the rule of law.

The “bleeding heart” liberal position on immigration, embraced by the Democrats, is that anyone who wants to come to the U.S. should be allowed to do so. In other words, the Left believes we have an obligation — based on “compassion” — to admit noncitizens who are suffering in highly disadvantaged countries. Who are we kidding? The residents of those countries would be crazy not to want to live in America.

But if we open our borders to all who want to come here, it will be impossible to accommodate the resulting tidal wave of immigrants. The economic and social costs of such a policy would tear us apart. Clearly we cannot afford to admit everyone who wants to come here, nor is our government under any legal or moral obligation to satisfy the desires of the entire planet.

So whom should we admit? The answer was articulated by White House spokesman Raj Shah: “Like other nations that have merit-based immigration, President Trump is fighting for permanent solutions that make our country stronger by welcoming those who can contribute to our society, grow our economy, and assimilate into our great nation.”

It is not racism to say we should admit skilled people from functioning countries like Norway and not those lacking skills from dysfunctional places like Haiti. The U.S. government has an obligation to admit newcomers who will have a positive impact on our country. That obligation is to our citizens and our citizens alone. We have no legal or moral obligation to anyone else.

Our obligation is to our citizens and our citizens alone. We have no legal or moral obligation to anyone else.

We have laws on the books that would do the job if they were enforced. The Democratic Party and the mainstream media have made a mockery of those laws. Eleven million or more illegals have infiltrated our borders without permission, disappeared into the interior, and the government seems powerless to find them — let alone deport them.

Most of them are unskilled and uneducated and must rely on government assistance. Most of them don’t learn English and won’t assimilate. They commit a disproportionate number of serious crimes, as exemplified by the Kate Steinle murder case in San Francisco.

Ironically, we have videos from some years ago in which then-President Bill Clinton and other prominent Democrats advocated strict enforcement of existing immigration laws. Not any more. The Democrats figured out that third-world immigrants will vote overwhelmingly for Democrats.

Admitting them in droves will turn our country into a one-party system. The Democratic position is purely political and has nothing to do with compassion. This justification for mass immigration is an assault on the democratic values that have been in place since the country was founded. Think about this: If a majority of illegals opted for Republicans, the Democrats would demand an immediate halt to immigration.

The Democrats have come up with another opportunistic ploy — the dreamers, called so for the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act. Their parents brought the dreamers here, illegally of course, and they grew up here. They demand citizenship and want to bring their parents back.

We should “embrace” the dreamers, says House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California, and our nation should be “inspired” by them. Inspired by people who have shown contempt for our laws? This is insane.

The sensible answer to their demands is no because their parents broke the law. They should be blaming their parents — not U.S. immigration law — for their problems. The defining principle is that we have a right to decide who comes into our own country.

That decision does not belong to people who protest our laws after coming here illegally. As Fox News’ Tucker Carlson pointed out recently, current illegal immigrants are determining the shape of future immigration. That is crazy.

Thanks to what is known as chain migration, each dreamer would, of course, want to bring in his or her mother and father and sisters and brothers and cousins and so on. Commentator Mark Levin estimates that we have 3.6 million dreamers.

Adding their extended families would bring the total to more than 10 million. Combine that number with our 11 million or more “undocumented immigrants” — and the potential total added to the Democratic voter rolls is staggering.

Some states are issuing driver’s licenses to “undocumented immigrants” — automatically making them “documented” — and then allowing them to vote. This will give the country over to the Democrats a lot faster without the necessity of conferring citizenship.

Which brings up another sore point. The Democrats are against showing proof of identity at the polls. Their phony argument is that it will prevent blacks from voting. The real reason is that it gives Democrats another chance to influence elections using people who have no right to vote. If we are required to show an ID to get on an airplane — we can do the same when we vote.

In their quest for more and more power, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, Pelosi, and their fellow Democrats want to take the U.S. down the road to destruction. We need to stop them by supporting Trump’s effort to drain the swamp. And we need to do it now.
