“Farcical” was how Laura Ingraham, host of the Fox News program “The Ingraham Angle,” described Time magazine’s 2017 choice for Person of the Year.

Many on social media used similar words to describe the selection, especially considering that the “person of the year” wasn’t a person at all. It was, instead, a handful of people Time deemed responsible for kicking off the #MeToo movement, a social media trend that encouraged women to come forward with their stories of sexual harassment or assault in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal in Hollywood.

Those people included actresses Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd, and former Fox News host Megyn Kelly.

The “tiresome” selection by Time wound up as “just another excuse to bash the president,” noted Ingraham on Wednesday night.

Time linked the #MeToo movement back to January’s Women’s March — and managed to mention the president multiple times in its coverage.

The fact that Time linked the movement to the “entirely partisan in nature” anti-Trump Women’s March made the 2017 selection too agenda-driven and politically charged, Ingraham pointed out.

The media, said Ingraham, “just can’t help but politicize pretty much everything.”

Not included in the political coverage of the sexual misconduct allegations was this point: The recent scandals “more often than not occurred at the hands of liberals,” said Ingraham.

Instead, President Donald Trump was the focus of the coverage — while accused sexual predators and outspoken liberals such as Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer, Kevin Spacey, and others fell by the wayside.

“This cause has been remade into a political weapon with one goal: taking back political power,” Ingraham said of the #MeToo movement. She said the linking of the Women’s March to the president had everything to do with setting up an agenda that would eventually go after Trump’s position.

“They deserve to be heard,” said Ingraham of those coming forward with stories of sexual harassment and assault. But their movement is seriously damaged when it is “enmeshed with an obvious political agenda.”
