MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski said Monday on the show that supporters of the Second Amendment who don’t want to talk about gun control in the wake of Sunday’s mass Texas church shooting are “cowards” — even though two armed Texans reportedly chased the gunman down.

The “Morning Joe” panel devoted a sizable chunk of time to calling out the National Rifle Association (NRA) and other groups for supporting the constitutional right to bear arms after a gunman opened fire at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs and killed at least 26 people while wounding 20 others. About 4 percent of the town’s population was killed in the massacre.

Noting that two of the nation’s five deadliest mass shootings in modern history occurred during the past 35 days, Brzezinski and the panel blasted gun owners for holding on so tightly to their constitutional rights and shying away from discussing gun control legislation.

“For those who say after every shooting — which is practically every day — and mass shooting practically every month if not twice a month, ‘Oh, it’s too soon. Oh, it’s too soon.’ Really?” Brzezinski said. “We’re not safe at school. We’re not safe in church. We’re not safe at concerts.”

“Like exactly when can we have this conversation? You’re cowards,” Brzezinski added.

Although the “Morning Joe” co-host showed her disdain for Second Amendment defenders and those who want to limit the restrictions imposed upon that constitutional right, two gun-toting Texans said they chose to chase down Texas shooter Devin Patrick Kelley in a truck after one of the men reportedly shot Kelley.

During the course of the “Morning Joe” discussion, New York Times political correspondent Nicholas Confessore bemoaned the fact that “the mainstream gun culture is mainstream” in the U.S.

“The NRA functionally is a trade organization for weapons manufacturers, and their job is to sell more guns,” he said. “I suspect if you could see behind the books of that group, you would see money kind of swashing around from gun makers. That’s why we have these ritual panics about gun takebacks or confiscation.”

“Because the goal is to sell more guns. They’ve already sold as many guns as they possibly can, and they just sell more and more to the small number of people that want arsenals,” Confessore added.
