MSNBC’s Mika Compares Trump to Kim Jong-Un, Again

'Morning Joe' co-host claims president 'imbalanced and hard to predict,' will 'lead us into war'

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski once again compared President Donald Trump to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un on Monday, saying both leaders are “imbalanced and hard to predict” in ways that could lead to a global nuclear war.

Brzezinski, who has made no secret of her intense disdain for the president and his agenda, bashed Trump for a series of weekend tweets and retweets. In particular, she took issue with a Sunday tweet in which the president said, “I spoke with President Moon of South Korea last night. Asked him how Rocket Man is doing. Long gas lines forming in North Korea. Too bad!”

The “Rocket Man” tweet was an apparent reference to Kim and the impact of a recent string of United Nations sanctions leveled against North Korea. The sanctions have done little to deter provocations from the rogue nation, however. North Korea has tested three missiles in recent weeks and reportedly also tested a large bomb.

“It may be that President Trump’s tweets and stupid statements might be sort of losing their, whatever, gusto in the marketplace, and lowering our place in the world and people discounting him,” Brzezinski said. “But I could see the leader of North Korea, who is equally potentially, you know, imbalanced and hard to predict, reacting badly.”

If Trump refuses to curtail such tweets as the “Rocket Man” one, she claimed that the president’s Twitter usage will “lead us into war” before too long.

“I wish there was an intelligent analysis for this behavior, but there simply is not,” Brzezinski said. “And we all know that.”

This wasn’t the first occasion upon which she compared the U.S. president to the North Korean dictator. Earlier in September, the “Morning Joe” co-host accused Trump of being “very hungry for war” and “hungry to make unhinged decisions” in a manner similar to Kim’s behavior.

“So as we talk about these two leaders … the only problem is that when you talk about the rationality of the leaders in a lot of this conversation, I honestly did not know which leader you were talking about, whether it was Trump or the North Korean leader,” Brzezinski said. “And that’s the sort of elephant in the room that we are dealing with: a president that some might argue is very hungry for war, or is hungry to make unhinged decisions. And I’m not sure how much influence our foreign-policy leaders have over that ultimately when a decision is made.”

The “Morning Joe” co-host also took the opportunity Monday to blast new White House Chief of Staff John Kelly for his failure to prevent such tweets as the “Rocket Man” one, urging him to resign from his post if he cannot compel the president to “hand over his phone.”

“I’m actually going out on a limb and say that we have become desensitized to these tweets and they are dangerous,” Brzezinski said. “And that if General Kelly wants to, like, work on saving this country from the frailties of this president’s ability to process information and handle it like an adult, and not lead us either marching into war or cause some sort of unrest, he needs to take his phone away from him. And if he does not hand over his phone, he needs to quit.”
