In an effort to increase the number of abortion clinics in Missouri, Planned Parenthood and the Satanic Temple have partnered to fight against the state’s restrictions on them.

These restrictions require abortion clinics to operate under the same standards as surgery centers. The physicians who perform abortions must also have hospital privileges. There are requirements in a surgical environment, such as sterility, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) compliance, and credentials. When standards are not met, lives are at risk. Tragically, this includes the life of the mother — not just the child she is choosing to abort.

Touting a belief system that “One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone” and that “beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world,” Satanists claim regulations on abortion are a violation of their freedom and liberty.

But Satanists aren’t just focused on abortion rights. They have been making significant strides in terms of their representation in the public school system, arguing it’s a First Amendment issue. The After-School Satan Club for kids in Tacoma, Washington, has been put on temporary hiatus while the group recruits more volunteers from the Satanic Temple of Seattle.
