Actress Kristen Bell has been riding out Hurricane Irma in Orlando, Florida. Taking to her Instagram account on Friday, she explained that leaving the state was not an option for her.

She was there filming her latest picture, “The Feather.”

“Last run to the store for #irma hurricane holdover prep while bracing down in Orlando. We didn’t have the option to leave so here we are,” Bell wrote. “Just doing our best and trying to stay positive but cautious, and trying to help those who need help prepping. Every person I passed today was assisting someone else — #neighborshelpingneighbors — it was beautiful to see.”

Bell did not use her time to simply bunker down.

The actress provided shelter to at least two families.

“So @kristenanniebell literally saved my parents and my entire family tonight from #hurricaneirma,” wrote actor Josh Gad, who starred with Bell in “Frozen,” on Instagram on Saturday. “When they were stranded in Florida, she got them a hotel room at her hotel in Orlando and saved them … They don’t make them like this girl. Thank you, Kristen. You are truly an angel sent from above.”

“People decided to bunk up together,” Bell told “Good Morning Sacramento,” of which her father is news director. “We did a little room switching … We got, I think, 13 [Gad] family members come here last night and I have other friends from LA that did the same thing this morning … We’re all sleeping together and it’s going to be a giant slumber party.”

Bell also provided shelter for actress Jennifer Carpenter’s grandmother and aunt. “Gma&aunt were ready2 wear helmets N closet under eye of #HurricanIrma til @IMKristenBell found them a way out,” Carpenter wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

The 36-year-old Bell even visited an Orlando middle school acting as a shelter — where she performed for and visited with people waiting out the storm.

All of these selfless and kind gestures are in marked contrast to the actions and words of too many whiny celebrities — who tend to politicize tragedy for their own personal gain or fame.
