Stone’s biography at the Huffington Post says he has covered lobbying and campaign finance issues in Washington. While Stone did substantial reporting in the mainstream, his fondness for left-leaning outlets is apparent.

“At National Journal, where he spent almost 18 years, Stone broke several scoops on the Jack Abramoff influence peddling scandal,” the Huffington Post biography reads. “[Stone] spent a decade in New York freelancing for papers such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Newsday and magazines including The Atlantic, The Nation, and New Times. He started his career at the late muckraking magazine Ramparts, where he was one of the editors in the early 1970s.”

At Mother Jones, the far-left media outlet, Stone focused mostly on the Koch brothers, money, and Republicans. Stone is the nephew of I.F. Stone, the legendary left-wing journalist who recruited for the Soviet Russian KGB in the late 1930s.

McClatchy’s aggressive use of left-wing narratives and invective comes after leadership changed at the McClatchy D.C. bureau. Kristin Roberts, the former national editor of Politico, was hired by McClatchy to be executive editor in December 2016.

McClatchy corporate leadership referred questions to Roberts, who did not respond to messages left by LifeZette in March or on Wednesday night.[lz_pagination]
