Victims of Illegal-Alien Crime Finally Have a ‘VOICE’

A point that often gets overlooked — and, by some with agendas, intentionally obscured — in any discussion of crimes committed by illegal aliens is that those crimes would not have occurred at all had the illegals not been in the country to begin with.

Consider the case of the young Muslim woman, Nabra Hassanen, 17, who was fatally beaten with an aluminum baseball bat in the early morning hours of June 18 in Sterling, Virginia, in what police say was a “road rage” incident. The mainstream news media were virtually slavering at the prospect of declaring it “Islamophobia” and a “hate crime” — until police arrested the suspect, Darwin Martinez Torres.

Martinez Torres, 22, is an illegal alien from El Salvador, but you’d have to read down to the 24th paragraph of The Washington Post’s article on the crime in the June 20 edition to learn that.

Even then, his illegal status was referenced only obliquely, by noting that “U.S. immigration officials requested that a ‘detainer’ be placed on him at the county jail, meaning they are interested in possible future deportation proceedings.” The words “illegal” and “immigrant” are nowhere to be found. Nor were they in a follow-up article in the Post’s June 21 edition.

You could also ask the parents of Kate Steinle, the 32-year-old San Francisco woman who was fatally shot nearly two years ago on July 1, 2015. The suspect in the case is a five-times-deported illegal alien, Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez. The Steinle case became a rallying cry for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign promise to crack down on illegal immigration and build a border wall.

And don’t tell the family of Lennox Lake — as open-borders extremists are quick to do — that immigrants are statistically no more likely to commit crimes than native-born Americans. Even if that were true, that’s cold comfort for six-year-old Lennox, who sustained a fractured skull in a May 6 car crash near San Diego when he and his family were returning home from Disneyland.

Constantino Banda-Acosta, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, faces charges of drunken driving, hit-and-run, and driving without a license in connection with the crash. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told KGTV that Banda-Acosta “[had] been repatriated to Mexico at least 15 times since 2002, most recently in January 2017.”

Nor are the so-called “Dreamers” covered by President Obama’s extra-constitutional DACA executive amnesty all pillars of society, as most of the mainstream media would have you believe. Oliver Funes-Machado, an 18-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras, stands accused of decapitating his own mother on March 6 in Franklin County, N.C., in front of two siblings.

Illegal immigrants have long had special-interest pleaders serving as their defenders, callously dismissive of the criminal activity, lethal and nonlethal alike.

“Driving without a license is used as a pretext for deportation. Re-entering the U.S. to be with family is treated as a major crime. Using a fake document to get a job is called ‘criminal,'” huffed Frank Sharry, executive director of the pro-open-borders American Voice, effectively pooh-poohing identity theft, Social Security-related fraud, and tax evasion. “We’re not talking about dangers to the public. We’re talking about people trying to work or rejoin their families.”

Open-borders apologists insist that immigrants are no more likely to engage in criminal activity than people born in this country, but they intentionally conflate all immigrants, legal and illegal, in their calculations to muddle the debate. More tellingly, the statistic is derived solely from incarceration figures. In any case, the victims of the crimes of illegals are hardly assuaged by statistics.

Until now, the Remembrance Project was all but alone in its mission of giving a voice to the victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens. The Washington, D.C.-based organization’s website includes a gallery of more than 50 people who have lost their lives at the hands of “individuals who should not have been in the country in the first place.”

As of this writing, a picture of Miss Hassanen, whose body was recovered from a pond near Martinez Torres’ apartment complex, had not yet been added to the gallery.

The mainstream media have given short shrift to the Remembrance Project, but now, those who have been victimized by illegal aliens will have another voice, one that will be much harder to ignore.[lz_pagination]
