Many artists believe weed is a creative tool — which is why marijuana is so common in places like Hollywood.

Some artists, however, find the drug can hold them back, not to mention threaten their health — and that moving forward without it leads to something far better.

Here’s a look at three celebrities who have publicly talked about why they’ve quit smoking weed and why.

Miley Cyrus. Known for her onstage antics and attention-seeking music videos, Cyrus has cleaned up her act recently and put a sharp focus back on her music. And as part of her soft reinvention, she’s decided to leave weed behind.

She continued, “I like to surround myself with people that make me want to get better, more evolved, open, and I was noticing, it’s not the people that are stoned.”

She also recently told Jimmy Fallon that weed was making her paranoid and giving her bizarre nightmares.

“I kept having this nightmare, it was seriously horrible … I had this dream that I would die during my monologue on ‘SNL’ for some reason. That I would just get so stoned that I just died,” Cyrus told Fallon on his late-night program. “Which I Googled, and that’s never happened.”
