How Evergreen State College Failed to Protect Its White Students

School officials succumbed to an angry mob in further evidence of the madness occurring on college campuses

Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, has been facing a crisis that has escalated to preposterous levels.

Apparently, racial tensions between students and faculty somehow became so dire that it caused groups of students to shout at faculty members, including the college president. These verbal assaults were captured on video and went viral. They show groups of angry students chanting, yelling, and cursing at faculty members while proclaiming that the entire school is racist.

Protesters also claim they felt as though the campus police response was too aggressive (surprise, surprise).

All of the madness came to a head when a campus-sanctioned day without white people took place. The college traditionally hosts an event called “day of absence” where students of color stay off campus and meet to have racial discussions. However, this year quickly turned into something very ugly when a school official requested that rather than students of color meeting off campus, white people refrain from showing up on campus to allow the gathering to occur on campus.

Based upon the videos I have seen of obnoxious students shouting profanities, I can only speculate that college officials allowed accusations of racism to intimidate them into making the heinous decision to institute segregation.

Sadly, only one professor stood up and spoke out against such actions. According to Bret Weinstein, “On a college campus, one’s right to speak — or to be — must never be based on skin color.” He sent an email to all staff and faculty expressing his concerns and the issues he had with asking all white people to leave campus. That email ended up being published in the school paper.

Over a month had passed since the incident when protesting students showed up to Professor Weinstein’s class shouting at him. He was accused of being a racist for refusing to leave campus while being white, and they demanded his firing. Once again succumbing to the angry mob, school officials have banded together to demand that Professor Weinstein be fired.

This is absolutely insane. Professor Weinstein is not only a liberal, but he is also Jewish. It appears that Evergreen wanted to silence their staff regarding the situation because they hammered down on Weinstein hard for publicly speaking out about what had happened. He has been blamed for white supremacists harassing the college and even for an anonymous call threatening violence that closed the campus for two days.

I fail to understand how Evergreen College claims to be so “woke” that they would do something vile, like banning students of a certain color from campus, yet lash out when one of their own professors exercises his right to freedom of speech.

This situation is absolutely disgusting and has no place in the United States. This is 2017, and Evergreen has failed not only to protect its faculty, but its white students from backlash and being verbally assaulted.

As a result, Washington lawmakers are discussing privatizing the college by stripping Evergreen of $24 million in state appropriations.
