“Live by Night,” $75 million loss. Ben Affleck was riding high on a comeback for awhile, with critical and commercial hits such as “Argo” and “The Town.” But “Live by Night” was essentially dumped in theaters in January — and critics and audiences agreed Affleck’s comeback was stalled.
The throwback gangster movie earned only $10.4 million domestically. Its worldwide total wasn’t much better at $22.3 million. Insiders revealed to Variety that the Warner Brothers studios was looking at a $75 million loss on the movie.
