Make Sure These Five Books Are on Your Summer Reading List

Mix of exciting new fiction and insightful nonfiction worth taking to the hammock, the hills or the beach

“The Ranger Way,” by Kris “Tanto” Paronto. Military memoirs have become more and more popular in recent years thanks to bestsellers like “American Sniper,” from late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle ,and “Lone Survivor,” from Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell. Their popularity is something for which we should be thankful. The stories of veterans are foreign to most people — today, less than 1 percent of Americans actively serves in the military.

This is why memoirs can serve as great tools for servicemen and women to tell their stories and to make a lasting connection with the public.

Kris “Tanto” Paronto is a former Army Ranger — and one of the survivors and heroes of the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attacks.

In the book, coming out May 23, Tanto shares “the importance of demanding excellence when you commit to improving your life.” Readers learn why they should not quit, and “why that is different from never failing.” An official book description also notes that Tanto drew on his experiences in basic and Ranger training “to explore how to deal with mistakes and disappointment like a leader.”
