Christians should engage more in politics, says Franklin Graham, the evangelical leader who continues to voice a message of action.

Graham, who heads up the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and the humanitarian aid organization Samaritan’s Purse, kicked off a “Decision America Tennessee Tour” in Chattanooga on Monday evening.

“Republicans won’t turn it around, Democrats won’t turn it around. Only God can.”

“Let’s pray and get Christians involved in politics,” Graham said, according to USA Today Network — Tennessee.

During Graham’s 2016 “Decision America” tour last year through all 50 states, he echoed a similar theme.

“Right now we need to get godly men and women to vote and to run for office,” Graham said in Des Moines, Iowa, during the kickoff of that 2016 tour. “Your vote counts. America needs the Christian vote.”

On his tour this month, Graham will lead people in prayer for the United States, their state, and their local communities.

“Our country is in trouble,” Graham said Monday in Chattanooga, as the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported. “Republicans won’t turn it around, Democrats won’t turn it around. Only God can. Let’s take a moment to pray for our country.”

An estimated 6,200 people turned out in Chattanooga on Monday.

“I wanted to encourage people to pray and vote, to encourage Christians to run for office,” Graham told USA Today Network — Tennessee.

He’s repeatedly called Christians to political platforms — as he did in 2015 as well. “And I want to encourage you to take a stand in your communities,” he said that year during a conference in Oklahoma. “Get involved in government. Get involved in politics. Who says we can’t be in politics? The gays and lesbians are in politics, I can tell you that. All the anti-God people are in politics. They’re there.”

This year, Graham will make stops in Tennessee and Texas for the Decision America tour. “God has given me a burden to go back, this time to preach in medium and smaller cities across states and regions,” he said.

“Thousands of churches and tens of thousands of people are excited to come together this May to pray for their communities in the Volunteer State,” Lawrence Swicegood, director of the Decision America Tennessee Tour, said in a statement.

Graham is currently touring Tennessee throughout this coming weekend and will head to Texas in the fall.

“Good morning! I am drinking my coffee and looking out over the mountains,” Graham posted on Facebook Wednesday morning. “God is so good, and to think that He knows each and every one of us … and that He loves us and that He cared enough to send His Son, Jesus Christ, to this earth to take our sins. Now that’s Good News as you start your brand-new day!”

“Helping people come out of despair and hopelessness and find life-changing hope in Christ is why Franklin will visit many small towns in America — where larger events may not typically come,” according to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
