Tuesday night, President Donald Trump dedicated a portion of his speech to a joint session of Congress to honor and pay tribute to the widow of Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens.

As Trump praised the sacrifices of Owens, who was killed on Jan. 29 during a military operation against al-Qaida in Yemen, several Democrats appeared unmoved by the tribute.

“Ryan died as he lived: a warrior, and a hero — battling against terrorism and securing our nation.”

“We are blessed to be joined tonight by Carryn Owens, the widow of a U.S. Navy special operator, Senior Chief William ‘Ryan’ Owens. Ryan died as he lived: a warrior, and a hero — battling against terrorism and securing our nation,” Trump said.

“I just spoke to [Defense Secretary] Gen. Mattis, who reconfirmed that, and I quote, ‘Ryan was a part of a highly successful raid that generated large amounts of vital intelligence that will lead to many more victories in the future against our enemies,'” Trump continued.

“Ryan’s legacy is etched into eternity. For as the Bible teaches us, there is no greater act of love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. Ryan laid down his life for his friends, for his country, and for our freedom — we will never forget him,” Trump said.

Following those lines, the vast majority of the audience stood and gave the Gold Star family a long ovation. Several Democrats initially stood for the widow, but then remained seated for a majority of the tribute.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, stood briefly after Owens’ introduction, then remained seated for nearly all of the standing ovation, according to Daily Wire.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) and former DNC Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Shultz (D-Fla) also remained seated and declined to clap for a majority of the standing ovation.

“AWFUL: Top Democrats Refuse To Stand, Clap For Navy SEAL Widow Honored By Trump,” tweeted Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro.

“Sobbing widow of slain Navy Seal gets 2 minute standing ovation. Debbie Wasserman Schultz & Keith Ellison stay seated, no claps,” tweeted Mark Simone, a syndicated conservative radio host.

Democrats declined to applaud or stand during several other moments tailor-made for bipartisan unity during the speech Tuesday night.

“America just watched Trump calling on parties to unite. Reps stood and cheered. Dems sat on their thumbs. The Party of No,” tweeted Brent Bozzell, the founder and president of the Media Research Center.
