Ingraham: Trump Needs to Stick to ‘Core Issues’
President urged to focus on agenda, avoid minefields set by detractors who 'want him out'
LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham urged President Donald Trump to stick to the “core issues that drove the electorate” to support him instead of being sidetracked by political traps during an interview Tuesday on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”
Ingraham’s comments came the day after FBI Director James Comey testified before the House Intelligence Committee and revealed the agency is conducting an investigation into potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. In addition, Comey also commented on Trump’s March 4 tweets claiming that former President Obama “had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower” before the election. Comey said that he has “no information that supports those tweets.”
“I do think it’s probably pretty wise at this point for President Trump not to tweet issues or points that are tangential or that are not factually confirmed,” Ingraham said on “Fox & Friends.” “I think … when he tweeted out about Obama wiretapping, that was a mistake. He shouldn’t have done that.”
Trump’s tweets, Ingraham said, have given the hostile Democrats and the mainstream media fuel to demean him and undermine the good things he has been doing for the country since he took office two months ago.
“They want him to resign, or they want him to be impeached. That is what the Democrats are after. Let’s be really blunt about what’s going on,” Ingraham said. “When you go on the left-wing blogs, or even some of the other cable competitors this morning — which I checked into — they want him out. So, is he going to help them, or is he going to get back to the focus of what Kellyanne [Conway] was talking about?”
Ingraham referred to comments Conway made earlier on “Fox & Friends” about the successes Trump has notched fulfilling key campaign promises. The president himself highlighted many of those wins during his rally in Louisville, Kentucky, Monday evening.
“And I think he should stay focused on the things he promised the country that he’d do, which he did last night. It was Obamacare repeal, the wall, rebuilding our economy, all those core issues that drove the electorate,” Ingraham said. “That’s what he needs to focus on.”
While the FBI’s investigation runs its course, Ingraham insisted it is of paramount importance that Trump sticks to his agenda.
“This investigation is going to run its course, but [the Democrats and media] are going to use this to now try and get him off track,” Ingraham said. “Every chance they can, they want to use it to get him off track and to try to hurt his credibility. That’s their goal. They want him out. I mean, they want President Trump out.”
“That’s what he needs to focus on. I think he’s very capable of doing that,” Ingraham reaffirmed. “But this FBI investigation … will continue to be a cloud over this administration. They just can’t — they can’t create any more clouds while they’re at it.”
