Obama’s Fantasy World Comes True

Entertainer-in-chief packs in the Hollywood elites at last big White House bash

If you needed any more proof that the celebrity-in-chief has left the American people behind, look no further than his last big shindig at the White House.

Barack and Michelle Obama threw their last bash at the White House Friday night, and it was a whopper. Dozens of celebrities turned out to party until 4 a.m. in a farewell frenzy that saw the likes of Meryl Streep, Paul McCartney, and Sarah Jessica Parker tear up the dance floor — followed by snacks of chicken and waffles for everyone into the wee hours.

Yep, all of this happened just hours after Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was shot up by a former military man who claimed “ISIS was speaking to him,” leaving five people dead and eight more injured. All of this happened after Chicago was still in the throes of disbelief — as was the nation — over the kidnapping and torture by four African-Americans of a mentally challenged white 18-year-old, while those responsible forced the disabled young man to curse at President-Elect Donald Trump. All of this happened while millions of Americans worry about their health care in this New Year, their jobs, their wages, their children’s education, their country’s status in the world and so much more — yet Obama partied like it was 1999.

VIP guests on Friday night were prohibited from recording any video inside the party. Nevertheless, a number of A-listers posted selfies to social media, revealing just how many Hollywood elites turned out to blow kisses, sip champagne, take pictures and bid a fond farewell to the Obamas.

The singer Pharrell and Solange — sister of Beyonce — reportedly performed at the event. Obama is rumored to have been all over that dance floor with the likes of Robert De Niro, Usher, and many others. Meanwhile, actor Bradley Cooper and basketball great Magic Johnson chatted beneath a portrait of Abraham Lincoln.

The party clearly had been planned well in advance. And it further illustrates the outgoing president’s curious prioritizing, something that never appeared a strong suit. It illustrates the funerals he did not attend and the ones he did, the tragedies that compelled him to address the nation — and the ones that did not.

The first week of 2017 contained several atrocities, both across the nation and globally, but evidently the show at the White House must go on.

“It’s something that they’ve done in the past and something I anticipate they’re going to do again tomorrow,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said on Thursday with regard to the Obamas’ hobnobbing with Hollywood elites.

“Over the years, the president and first lady have on occasion — not frequently, but on occasion — they’ve hosted parties at the White House for their friends. And I anticipate this will be the last one that they have. They’ve got some packing to do,” Earnest added.

Al Sharpton, Tyler Perry, Chris Rock, David Letterman, Tom Hanks, Nick Jonas, George Clooney, Stevie Wonder, and Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld are just some of the others who were also in attendance.

“Star Wars” directors George Lucas and JJ Abrams were at the party as well — along with Questlove, who deejayed the evening.

Sounds almost like the bar scene from the original “Star Wars.”

And yet — there was this video, a collection of people’s favorite “Obama moments.” Clearly there is a vast disconnect:
