The “be careful what you wish for because you just might get it” saying is one that rings true for celebrity newbies. However, with their obvious decreased levels of privacy comes the increased probability of negative exposure — especially as stars progress further into their careers.

The boundary, as we once knew it, between confidentiality and the media spotlight has dissipated right before our eyes. Nonetheless, certain celebrities aren’t exactly discouraging their predicaments. Their mishaps have come in the form of unwanted attention and controversy.

Thanks to the social media boom, fans as well as naysayers are now accustomed to having a bird’s-eye view of the lives of the rich and famous. Due to the Hollywood’s tumultuous nature, several well-known people have experienced the ill effects of their anti-role-model ways — essentially reaping what they sow.

Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, and to a smaller extent, Emily Ratajkowski, have all suffered the consequences of their individual actions, prompting the million-dollar question (no pun intended): Are these stars gluttons for punishment?

Contrary to popular belief, Kim Kardashian hasn’t been flaunting her wares or her worth since the beginning of time — despite the reactions she’s received for her post-robbery radio silence. On Oct. 3, the reality star was held at gunpoint and locked inside her “No Address” Hotel room lavatory by five suspects who escaped with $10 million-plus worth of jewelry.

Many believe that the assailants — who donned law enforcement attire — were primarily looking to obtain a 20-carat emerald-cut Lorraine Schwartz ring that Kardashian had showcased online. The lavish jewelry designer also posted a close-up video of the 35-year-old sporting the one-of-a-kind band on Instagram. Troubled star Kanye West had purchased the $4.5 million ring for her.

Bieber has repeatedly made clear, on a slew of occasions, that his loyalists are the last thing on his mind.

Interesting enough, West had an Adidas symbol etched on the ravishing ring’s interior.

Some two months later, the band and the suspects still remain at large. While no one wants to be victimized in such a heinous way, Kardashian clearly bit off more than she could chew when she opted to put the seven-figure bling on display.

From 2008 YouTube sensation to multi-platinum artist, Justin Bieber has been one of the most buzzed-about celebrities of the past eight years. Today’s most mainstream publications have heavily monetized all of his highly publicized peaks and valleys. Despite his accomplishments, the Canadian-born crooner has found it increasingly difficult to stay out of trouble. He’s accrued quite the rap sheet — reckless driving (2012), vandalism (2013, 2014), assault and dangerous driving (2014), and a DUI (2014). To this day, Bieber has repeatedly made clear, on a slew of occasions, that his loyalists are the last thing on his mind.

The proof? His racial remarks, offbeat social media posts, and less-than-ideal words for fans.

Bieber’s personal struggles and acts of violence have been the catalyst for a negative and publicity-filled career. At just 22 years old, Bieber — reportedly worth $225 million — likely has a long career ahead. That is, unless he continues filling the role of glutton in Hollywood’s dog-eat-dog world.

Since mesmerizing viewers in Robin Thicke and Pharrell’s hit single, “Blurred Lines,” Emily Ratajkowski has seen her popularity skyrocket. While the 25-year-old has yet to obtain A-lister status, she does maintain a loyal following, to the tune of 9.7 million Instagram followers and counting. The model-turned-actress has put exceptional work into the growth of her personal brand, garnering massive amounts of internet traffic by posting a slew of scantily clad photos.

Despite her curve-displaying willingness, Ratajkowski expressed her displeasure with photographer Jonathan Leder. In 2012, Ratajkowski — from her Woodstock, New York, residence — participated in an erotic photo shoot for the picture-taker. He now plans on using the never-before-seen shots for a nude photo book.

In response to the news, Ratajkowski said the photos were meant for “an artful magazine,” and said Leder’s actions are “a violation.”

Just a few days later, she had no qualms about posting pictures of herself in white-laced lingerie. The blatant double standard has her reaping the repercussions of her provocative ways.
