Gingrich: Clinton Foundation ‘Equivalent of Organized Crime’

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Thursday said new revelations about the Clinton Foundation’s fundraising practices demonstrate it operated like the mob.

Emails released this week by WikiLeaks show that two chief fundraisers from the family-run charity pushed corporate donors to provide business opportunities to former President Bill Clinton. Appearing on “The Laura Ingraham Show,” Gingrich expressed disgust.

“The Clintons run what is in effect the equivalent of organized crime.”

“The Clintons run what is in effect the equivalent of organized crime,” he said. “They had methodically figured out every way to fleece people. They did so at the expense of the people of Haiti. They did so at the expense of poor people everywhere.”

Gingrich said the Clintons also sued the secretary of state’s office “in ways that are clearly illegal.”

Gingrich added that it is amazing that the Democratic nominee for president and her husband have gotten away with it.

“It is astonishing to me that the level of corruption is so deep that neither the FBI nor the IRS nor anyone has taken apart this whole operation,” he said. “The more we learn from WikiLeaks, the clearer it is that these people engaged in routine, illegal behavior for personal enrichment.”

A 2011 memo written by Doug Band, then an executive of the Clinton Foundation, described how how donations to the charity sometimes led to high-dollar speaking fees and other opportunities for the former president. Band described how he and another aide introduced corporate executives to Clinton on the golf course and in other places.

Gingrich defended Republican Donald Trump’s decision to take time off the campaign trail Thursday to attend a dedication ceremony for his company’s renovation of the Old Post Office building in Washington — a project that came in under budget and ahead of schedule. He said Trump essentially gave a tutorial on how to run an efficient, money-saving operation.

Gingrich suggested that budget forecasters would have to come up with a new model to estimate the cost of government programs under Trump.

“It leads you believe a Trump-run government could not be scored by the Congressional Budget Office because they would assume it would be slow, bureaucratic, wasteful and stupid,” he said. “And they’d have no way of knowing what an entrepreneurial, under-budget, ahead-of-schedule system would look like. But of course, the elite media was desperate to avoid covering it, because the reality [is] that Donald Trump knows how do do things.”
