Emails recently exposed by WikiLeaks have shed new light on the activities of George Soros, the leftist billionaire chairman of Soros Fund Management and a Hillary Clinton supporter. He appears to have donated $650,000 for initiatives that encouraged faith-based organizations and Catholic bishops to shift the focus away from family and pro-life issues — and toward more liberal-leaning social justice issues during Pope Francis’ 2015 visit to the U.S.

It was an attempt to influence what American Catholics value most — and in this election year, to steer them toward Hillary Clinton, rather than Donald Trump.

A report on the effort said the goal was the buy-in “of individual bishops to more publicly voice support of economic and racial justice messages in order to begin to create a critical mass of bishops who are aligned with the pope.”

Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga, senior adviser to the pope, openly supported PICO, one of the organizations to receive money from Soros’ grant. The Review of 2015 U.S. Opportunities Fund also said of PICO and Faith in Public Life, “The efficacy of the media campaign can be seen in the team’s ability to react to and counter the anti-gay rhetoric.”

Among Catholic voters during this election cycle, Donald Trump continues to struggle, a point The Washington Post recently noted. In the past seven elections, Democrats edged out Republicans for the Catholic vote, according to Gallup polling data — but the margin by which they have won the Catholic vote has spiked.

Polling numbers show Catholics support Hillary Clinton by 23 points over Republican nominee Donald Trump. Whether or not this large margin is directly related to the papal visit and the influence of Soros’ alleged initiatives is another question.

Attorney Elizabeth Yore spoke to LifeSiteNews about the Soros allegations. Yore served as a liaison to the Vatican for the Heartland Institute Delegation that urged Pope Francis to reconsider his involvement with United Nations climate control proponents.

“Catholics serve as a huge and influential voting bloc in the U.S. election,” Yore said. In response to Soros’ involvement in the election, Yore said Soros is “using the head of the Catholic Church to influence this key voting bloc,” along with the “bully pulpit of the papacy” to ensure Hillary Clinton’s election, according to LifeSiteNews.

Nevertheless, Catholics must assess the source of their information and consider their choice in November based on their faith values.

Hillary Clinton’s positions on abortion and gay marriage are hardly a mystery.

“Politicians have no business interfering with women’s personal health decisions. I will oppose efforts to roll back women’s access to reproductive health care, including Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood,” Clinton stated in January. “As president, I’ll stand up for Planned Parenthood and women’s access to critical health services, including safe, legal abortion.”

By comparison, Trump has affirmed he is pro-life and against abortion except in cases of rape or danger to the mother.

When referring to Planned Parenthood, Trump said in an interview on ABC’s “The View”: “I am against abortion … and that is a tremendous amount of the work they do.”

Clinton is poised to be the most pro-abortion president in the history of this country. Catholics should not be swayed by a billionaire Clinton supporter who is attempting to dictate the political conversation.

Soros changed the conversation by influencing Catholic leaders. The grant money specifically targeted changing the discussion of family values to conversations about income inequality and other social justice issues.
