At least three people have died Monday following a shooting at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph, Michigan, an employee at the county prosecutor’s office said.

At least one other person, a police officer, suffered shots to the arm and hand, CBS television affiliates at the scene reported. St. Joseph is about 90 miles from Chicago.

The shooting in Michigan will mark at least the fifth targeted attack on police in the last week, including the massacre of five officers by a sniper in Dallas Thursday.

Michigan State Police confirmed the shooting occurred in the building around 2:30 p.m. Monday. The police have yet to confirm, but the employee said two court bailiffs are dead, as well as the shooter, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The courthouse is under lockdown and employees are being told to remain in their offices.

This latest targeted assassination of police officers comes on the heels of escalating violence directed at law enforcement since the shooting deaths last week of two unarmed black men under questionable circumstances. The shooting in Michigan will mark at least the fifth targeted attack on police in the last week, including the massacre of five officers by a sniper in Dallas on Thursday.

In Valdosta, Georgia, a police officer was ambushed Friday by a Dallas copycat who called 911 to draw in his target. The officer was shot more than once and is reportedly making a good recovery.

Another cop targeted by Black Lives Matter-inspired anti-police rhetoric Friday was not as fortunate.

Officer Michael Flamion was ambushed in Ballwin, Missouri, just outside Ferguson, during a routine traffic stop and shot in the neck — his condition was reportedly critical.

Lakeem Keon Scott, reportedly also motivated by a desire to kill police, opened fire on cop cars from the side of a highway in Tennessee on Thursday.

In the midst of this intensifying violence, police across the country are on edge. Dallas Police Chief David Brown, who addressed the nation at a press conference Monday, is mourning the loss of five officers who were the targets of a violent gunman who wanted to kill cops.

“We are all worried for our safety. We are all on edge and being very careful,” Brown said. “We’re asking cops to do too much in this country.”

This anger and violence against police has only been getting worse, and despite President Obama’s claim the majority of protests are “peaceful,” the death toll of brave officers continues to rise.
