At least three people have died Monday following a shooting at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph, Michigan, an employee at the county prosecutor’s office said.

At least one other person, a police officer, suffered shots to the arm and hand, CBS television affiliates at the scene reported. St. Joseph is about 90 miles from Chicago.

The shooting in Michigan will mark at least the fifth targeted attack on police in the last week, including the massacre of five officers by a sniper in Dallas Thursday.

Michigan State Police confirmed the shooting occurred in the building around 2:30 p.m. Monday. The police have yet to confirm, but the employee said two court bailiffs are dead, as well as the shooter, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The courthouse is under lockdown and employees are being told to remain in their offices.

This latest targeted assassination of police officers comes on the heels of escalating violence directed at law enforcement since the shooting deaths last week of two unarmed black men under questionable circumstances.
