Thanksgiving seems as if it happened years ago, and the true holiday onslaught is now upon us.

We all know the truth of it. It’s easy for Christmas to quickly get out of hand and far away from its true intent and purpose.

The past five or so Christmases, my husband and I carted our two young kids all over town and throughout most of the southern United States, trying to visit all of the relatives who wanted to see us and heap tons of love — and gifts — on the kids.

While we’re very appreciative of all the good things in our lives, I came to see we used most of our coveted family time driving, flying, and fighting exhaustion, spent in both body and wallet. Each January, my heart would sink when I realized the four of us had spent so little quality time together.

To seize control this year, I’m paring down in every way – financially, physically, logistically – so we have a chance to reap a bit of reason from the season, which, of course, is the whole point.

So here is what is now off my Christmas list. I think most other moms will understand! (Read on.)
