The White House lit up in rainbow colors within hours of the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize gay marriage — but when asked to light up in blue to honor the fallen Dallas police officers, the request was ignored.

The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association asked President Obama to illuminate the White House in blue to support of law enforcement officials and all Americans feeling the pangs of the deadliest day for law enforcement since the September 11 attacks.

“While we appreciate the president’s proclamation to have our flag flown at half-mast in honor of our fallen Dallas police heroes, I respectfully request that he demonstrate his full respect for their ultimate sacrifice by illuminating the White House in blue,” the association’s President Jon Adler said in a statement.

Adler urged administration officials to drop their robotic rhetoric and offer real support following the deadly shooting in Dallas.

“I respectfully ask that all elected officials drop their scripted speeches, and feel the pain resonating in Dallas and across the country. Light a blue candle and say a silent prayer, but don’t insult the law enforcement community with perishable scripted gibberish,” Adler said. “Five honorable heroes made the ultimate sacrifice in Dallas, and it would be a tribute to their service by illuminating the White House in blue.”

Adler called out House Minority Leader Pelosi for her overtly scripted remarks.

“Please know that the law enforcement community draws no comfort from House Minority Leader Pelosi’s dispassionate remarks when she quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today,” Adler said. “We don’t need her self-serving quotes from Dr. King. We need her to exude the leadership of Dr. King.”

Adler also criticized House Speaker Paul Ryan, saying “the law enforcement community draws no comfort for his remarks ‘A time for healing,'” as “a police officer was shot in Missouri” on the day of his speech.

“We can’t heal while law enforcement officers continue to bleed,” Adler said.
