Within the first three days of April, the city of Chicago saw 28 gun shot victims and one person killed — adding to the overall 817 people shot in the Windy City in 2016 alone.

Chicago is now on pace to have one of the most violent years in decades. The first three months of 2016 alone have seen a record number of shootings, up 89 percent from 2015, according to DNAInfo.com.

However, Chicago is known for having some of the strictest gun laws in the country and yet violent crime is on an uptick.

The Washington Post recently reported that the number of homicides in the nations largest cities has risen 17 percent — a record increase.
