Republican presidential candidate has finally released his plan to make Mexico pay for his proposed border wall, after months of speculation from a hostile media that no such plan existed.

In a two-page memo published in the Washington Post, Trump said he would threaten to end remittances to Mexico — money transfers sent by Mexican nationals residing in America back to Mexico — by amending a rule under the USA Patriot Act.

Trump would withdraw the threat if the Mexican government agreed to “a one-time payment of $5-10 billion” to pay for the border wall, he stated in the memo.

“It’s an easy decision for Mexico,” he wrote.

Mexicans living outside their home country sent roughly $25 billion home in 2015, according to the Washington Post. This cash is vital to the Mexican economy, say economists.

The “majority of that amount comes from illegal aliens,” wrote Trump, whose memo also suggests increasing trade tariffs and border-crossing card fees, as well as canceling visas, to help to make Mexico pay for the wall.
